Export journey to the United States

In early July, Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative (Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province) and LNS International Corporation signed a cooperation agreement to exclusively supply braised mackerel and other products of Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative in the US market.

Following the signing ceremony, large orders of braised mackerel and other products from the Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative will be officially exported to the US market. The first shipment is expected to arrive at Ho Chi Minh City port on July 20th for export to the United States.

Mr. Pham Van Hoanh - Representative of Ba Ba Hoi Agricultural and Food Processing Cooperative (Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province) said that Quang Nam has a long coastline with a very large fishing ground, along with a strong fishing fleet, abundant aquatic resources with high nutritional value. Together with the typical processing methods of Quang people, it creates unique and attractive dishes.

“With the desire to introduce the culinary specialties and cultural features of Quang Nam to domestic and international friends, the cooperative has researched and perfected the recipe for braised mackerel. All stages of production strictly adhere to regulations, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards. The braised mackerel is convenient and ready to use, making it popular with consumers,” Mr. Hoanh shared.

Through various trade promotion activities in Quang Nam province, several distributors became aware of Quang Nam's signature products, including braised mackerel. In April 2023, LNS International Joint Stock Company proactively contacted them to discuss cooperation in distributing this product in the United States. Subsequently, the company had the braised mackerel product inspected and found it to meet all requirements for export to the US market through official channels.

“Since our establishment, we have clearly defined our goal: Developing products based on the culinary culture of Quang people. Realizing the great potential of braised mackerel products, LNS has signed a contract to distribute this product, first in the US market,” said Mr. Hoanh.

Continuing to conquer challenging markets.

According to Mr. Hoanh, after completing the export procedures to the US market, the two units will continue to carry out procedures to continue exporting to other markets such as Japan, Singapore, Australia... and the European market will be where the two sides aim to export next year.

However, a representative from the Ba Ba Hoi cooperative also added that, according to the initial plan, the batch of braised mackerel exported to the United States was expected to be about 12 tons of finished product. But because this is the first shipment, the procedures are quite time-consuming, so this first batch will only export about 7.2 tons of finished product.

Besides the export procedures to the United States, the cooperative also faces difficulties in meeting food safety regulations throughout the transportation process. Furthermore, this is a product with a limited production time; the cooperative cannot extend production time, making it very difficult to fill a full container (a container holds over 40 tons). With current capacity, they can only consolidate containers. Demand in the US is very high, but the cooperative's production capacity is limited.

“To solve this problem, the cooperative and LNS International Joint Stock Company will work together to coordinate production, initially to meet the maximum demand for export output to the United States and other countries, ” said Mr. Hoanh.

With high consumer demand, LNS International Joint Stock Company and the cooperative are planning to expand the scale of their production and processing facilities, while simultaneously elevating the Ba Ba Hoi Cooperative to become not only a producer of Quang Nam specialties but also a supplier of specialty products from the Central and Central Highlands regions, ensuring they meet all the requirements and standards for export to demanding markets through official channels. This first step is expected to open up opportunities for long-term cooperation between the two entities, contributing to bringing Quang Nam's distinctive products further into the global market.
