Rich in potential
Tay Ho District boasts West Lake, covering approximately 526 hectares, renowned for its beautiful natural scenery and numerous traditional craft villages. Furthermore, the district is home to 71 historical and cultural relics that have been classified at the national and city levels. Many of Tay Ho's historical sites and scenic spots are being included in Hanoi tours by tourism companies, such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, Kim Lien Pagoda, and Tay Ho Palace.
Furthermore, Tay Ho is also famous for its many flower villages that have become popular tourist attractions and photo spots, such as the West Lake Flower Valley and the West Lake Creative Cultural Space with its many nighttime tourism activities. The district has also developed entertainment, dining , shopping, and 5-star accommodation options, such as the West Lake Water Park and Lotte Shopping Center.

Assessing the potential and advantages of tourism in Tay Ho district, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Tran Trung Hieu said that the area around West Lake, with its long history, has given rise to many traditional crafts, is rich in historical relics, and, along with the technical infrastructure system that the city has invested in, has contributed to enhancing its value, making Tay Ho one of the most prominent scenic spots in the capital.
According to information from the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the district currently has 126 accommodation establishments with 5,157 rooms, accounting for 3.4% of the total number of accommodation establishments in the city. Furthermore, several investors are currently developing four 5-star hotel projects and one 3-star hotel project.

In particular, in the near future, the West Lake area will have 12 types of services permitted to operate. These include tourist boats, canoes, water bikes on the lake, boating services, hot air balloon rides, paragliding, and a water golf practice area on the lake. "This is a very favorable opportunity for Tay Ho district to develop diverse types of services and entertainment to complement traditional service products," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
We need strong "handshakes".
According to experts, while the locality has great potential for tourism development, achieving this requires close collaboration between the locality and businesses in the process of exploiting destinations and building tours.
Suggestions for developing tourism in Tay Ho District in the future: Chairman of the Hanoi UNESCO Association, Truong Minh Tien, stated that Tay Ho is the only district in Hanoi that preserves lotus ponds in the heart of the city, along with many famous historical sites and scenic spots recognized as city-level tourist destinations. Therefore, Tay Ho District should expand the area for lotus cultivation, strengthen linkages between tourist destinations associated with Hanoi's lotus, and thus develop unique lotus tours.

Offering suggestions to improve the quality of tourism products and services in Tay Ho district, Phung Quang Thang, Chairman of the Vietnam Green Tourism Association, believes that compared to other districts of Hanoi, Tay Ho has an advantage in developing cultural and natural tourism. However, exploiting tourism requires the local government to pay more attention to improving the green, clean, and beautiful environment.
According to Mr. Thang, the historical sites in Tay Ho district are very unique, but to become tourism products, they need more attractive tourism services. "Tay Ho district should plan large-scale parking areas in tourist zones and attractions to serve large groups of tourists. Along with that, improve the quality of tour guides and interpreters at these sites," Mr. Thang suggested.

From the perspective of tourism businesses, Pham Duy Nghia, Director of VietFoot Travel Company, and other businesses share the same concern: destinations in the district have not received sufficient investment in service quality. Furthermore, there has been a lack of focus on building strong links with tourism businesses. Therefore, attracting tourists requires close collaboration between destinations and businesses.
"To attract tourists to Tay Ho, the local government needs to encourage businesses with strong economic potential to invest in high-quality tourism products and services to create a unique selling point," Mr. Nghia suggested.
Similarly, Pham Hai Quynh, Director of the Asian Tourism Development Institute, believes that Tay Ho has perfected its products and services and established close connections with travel businesses.

"The Tay Ho district government can immediately connect households with traditional crafts, businesses, areas, sites, and management boards of historical relics with travel agencies to include them in city tours. When businesses and people benefit, unique traditional values will be protected and create leverage for tourism to develop further," Mr. Quynh emphasized.
Responding to the contributions of the delegates, Vice Chairman of the Tay Ho District People's Committee Bui Thi Lan Phuong stated that the district has developed a plan for cultural and tourism development in the area to soon realize the goal of making Tay Ho one of the major tourist centers of the capital city.
Currently, the district is preparing a dossier to propose the recognition of the West Lake lotus tea-making craft as a national intangible cultural heritage. At the same time, a plan has been developed to expand the year-round lotus cultivation area to 25 hectares so that visitors to West Lake from January to December can admire the beauty of the lotus flowers, enjoy and purchase lotus-based products.
