The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has officially terminated the contract with coach Patrick Kluivert and the Dutch strategist's team when the Indonesian team could not qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

According to Bola, the two sides agreed to terminate the contract early despite the agreement being for two years. PSSI said: "The Indonesian Football Federation and the national team's coaching staff have agreed to terminate their cooperation through a bilateral mechanism."

PSSI also sent thanks to coach Patrick Kluivert and his colleagues for their contributions during the 9 months leading the national team.

The departure of the Dutch coaching staff will leave Indonesian national teams, including the national team, U23 and U20, temporarily without a leader until PSSI announces new personnel.

Coach Kluivert (center) and PSSI have agreed to terminate the contract ahead of schedule.

PSSI would like to thank the fans, players, their families and team members for their efforts and dedication to help Indonesia reach the 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup for the first time in history, a memorable milestone for the country's football.

PSSI also said it will conduct a comprehensive assessment and set new goals for the national team, including entering the world's Top 100 on the FIFA rankings, preparing for the 2027 Asian Cup and aiming for the 2030 World Cup.

Previously, PSSI fired coach Shin Tae Yong and appointed coach Patrick Kluivert on January 8, 2025. However, the Dutch coach could not help Indonesia realize their dream of participating in the World Cup when they stopped at the 4th qualifying round. After losing to Iraq, coach Kluivert also admitted that he was responsible: “I feel the same pain and disappointment that you are going through.

The defeats against Saudi Arabia and Iraq were bitter lessons and reminders of how big we dared to dream. As head coach, I take full responsibility."
