Removing bottlenecks in production
Tan Hoa commune was established on the basis of merging Mot Ngan town, Bay Ngan town, Nhon Nghia A commune and Tan Hoa commune (Chau Thanh A district, old Hau Giang province). The whole commune has 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, accounting for more than 85% of the natural area. Of which, there are 2,300 hectares of rice cultivation, more than 500 hectares of durian cultivation and 450 hectares of mango cultivation. Fruit growing areas along Xa No canal create ideal conditions for linking production with agricultural tourism.
Mr. Nguyen Van Be Chinh, Director of Thanh Dat Cooperative, said that in recent years, the cooperative has produced rice in an organic direction, approaching the standards of the Prime Minister 's "Project for sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030".
However, rice production by farmers in general and cooperatives in particular is facing high production costs and difficulties in storage and drying, which reduces production efficiency. "Some high-quality rice varieties are still purchased by traders at the same price as regular rice due to the lack of long-term consumption contracts," Mr. Chinh shared.
According to Ms. Tran Hong Nhien in Hamlet 2A, Tan Hoa Commune, currently, some agricultural products produced by farmers are purchased at a price decided by traders, and often have to be sold below production cost. Therefore, farmers need support to connect with e-commerce platforms, helping to open up a more sustainable direction.
At the end of November, Tan Hoa was the first commune-level unit in the city to organize a meeting between the government and businesses, cooperatives, cooperative groups, business households and farmers. The activity is considered a starting step for the goal of building a value chain for the industry that the commune will promote in the coming time.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Tam, Chairman of Tan Hoa Commune People's Committee, the locality has many advantages in tourism and agriculture , especially fruit trees. However, the production value is not high due to the small scale of cultivation, lack of linkage and dependence on traders; unstable output, making people's income unsustainable. Therefore, organizing networking conferences is considered a key solution to remove long-standing bottlenecks.
Value chain opens up new momentum
Along with promoting solutions to increase the value of agricultural production, Tan Hoa is forming an ecosystem with 14 OCOP products that have been recognized with 3-4 stars. Among them, goat yogurt, freeze-dried durian or coconut coffee products not only create prestige for local businesses but also reflect the dynamism of farmers in economic development.
Currently, the commune has two well-developed community tourism spots: Muong Dinh Homestay and Ngoc Dao Goat Milk Farm. These are models that contribute to creating more jobs, expanding the agricultural product consumption network and promoting the local image.
Mr. Le Hoang Xuyen, Secretary of the Tan Hoa Commune Party Committee, said that in the 2025-2030 period, the Party Committee and the commune government will focus on three pillars: developing agriculture according to the value chain of the industry (high-quality rice - mango - durian), forming at least five models of sustainable cooperative economy and developing community tourism, striving to reach more than 10,000 visitors by 2030. The commune is also preparing conditions to attract investment in Tan Hoa Industrial Park to expand development space.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hong Tu, Deputy Director of Hau Giang Campus, Can Tho University, building a value chain for the industry will increase the competitiveness of agricultural products, limit the situation of "breaking contracts" and help farmers stabilize product output. Combining OCOP with agricultural tourism will help Tan Hoa create multi-value economic products with more depth and sustainability.
From the foundation of key agriculture, the accompaniment of the government and the dynamism of enterprises and cooperatives, Tan Hoa is gradually shaping a harmonious development model between production - tourism - digital transformation. This is an important basis for the commune to increase people's income and create growth momentum in the new period.
