Just two days before the Everton game, West Ham sacked Graham Potter after just five Premier League games and Nuno Espírito Santo will replace him. According to the Telegraph, the West London club have agreed terms and are expected to make an announcement soon, with Nuno officially taking over on Monday.
The board's decision to sack him has shocked many players. Potter had won the hearts and support of some of the senior players in the squad, despite a poor run of results in his eight months in charge.
A statement from West Ham stated: “Results and performances in the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not met expectations, leading the Board of Directors to believe that changes must be made to improve the team's position in the Premier League table as soon as possible.”
West Ham have also confirmed that Potter's coaching staff will leave immediately and the process of appointing a replacement is underway. Looking back at Potter's time in charge, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract to succeed Julen Lopetegui in January, he has won just six of his 25 games. The last victory was a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest in August, which saw Nuno become the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season. And now the 51-year-old is set to take the reins of the second manager to be sacked. Nuno impressed when he took Wolves to the Premier League and into Europe, then went on to help Nottingham Forest qualify for the Europa League this season. Nuno has never been relegated from the Premier League.
