In 1998, Coach Troussier was appointed as head coach of the Japanese national team.

Just two years later, the French coach led the Japanese team to the Asian Cup championship in the tournament held in Lebanon.

At that time, the team under Mr. Troussier had an effective attacking style of play, scoring 21 goals in 6 matches.

In this journey, the Japanese team successively overcame very strong opponents such as Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Iran.

In 2004, coach Troussier moved to lead the Qatar team but was unsuccessful and stopped right after the group stage.
