Reservoir in Hong Linh town is exhausted, risk of domestic water shortage

Prolonged hot weather and little rain have caused all reservoirs in Hong Linh Town ( Ha Tinh ) to dry up.

Hong Linh Water Supply Branch (Ha Tinh Water Supply Joint Stock Company) has a capacity of supplying domestic water of 8,000 ^m3 /day and night for more than 12,000 customers in the town.

Thien Tuong Lake (Bac Hong Ward) provides raw water for Hong Linh Water Supply Branch.

Previously, during the peak of prolonged hot weather, to ensure the need for clean water supply for customers, there were days when Hong Linh Water Supply Branch had to increase capacity from 8,000 ^m3 /day and night to nearly 10,000 ^m3 /day and night.

Due to the long period of no rain, the water level in Thien Tuong Lake is very low.

Raw water source supplying input for the branch's production line is mainly taken from Thien Tuong Lake (Bac Hong Ward) with a reserve of more than 850,000 m ³ and Khe Doc Lake (Trung Luong Ward) with a reserve of 400,000 m ³ .

Many positions in Thien Tuong lake water shallow in the bottom.

However, due to the influence of El Nino and prolonged heat, there has been little rainfall in Hong Linh Town since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, there is no underground water source in Thien Tuong and Khe Doc lakes to replenish the water source. Currently, the water level in these lakes is gradually depleting to an alarming level.

No water plus many days of hot weather caused the bottom of the lake to crack.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hai - Director of Hong Linh Water Supply Branch said: "Although the branch has proactively saved and regulated water since the first months of the year, up to now, the water source between the lakes has reached its lowest level. Currently, the water reserve at Thien Tuong Lake is only ^64,000m3 , Khe Doc Lake is even closer, almost ^60,000m3 ".

At Khe Doc Lake (Trung Luong Ward) with a reserve of 400,000 ^m3, there is now only more than 60,000 ^m3 left.

According to Mr. Hai, although the raw water reserves in the lakes are at an alarming level, the Hong Linh Water Supply Branch still has to ensure the supply of clean water to the people. To save raw water, for many days now, the Hong Linh Water Supply Branch has reduced the flow and production capacity from 8,000 ^m3 /day and night to 6,000 ^m3 /day and night.

Because the water level in Khe Doc Lake is too low to flow naturally, Hong Linh Water Supply Branch must use pumps to get raw water.

In order to cope with the shortage of raw water for clean water production, from July 2023, Hong Linh Water Supply Branch has sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Hong Linh town to direct units, agencies and localities to propagate to people to use water economically.

Lacking raw water, Hong Linh Water Supply Branch had to reduce the volume of water supplied to people from 8,000 ^m3 /day and night to 6,000 ^m3 /day and night.

Along with that, Hong Linh Water Supply Branch has sent messages via mobile phones and Zalo accounts, asking customers to use water sparingly and proactively in using water for daily life and production.
