Miss World 2013 Megan Young says she did not offend the Botswana contestant after being criticized by the audience for stroking the contestant's hair.
Megan Young hosted the 71st Miss World final on March 9th in India. During the top 4 contestants' presentations, when Lesego Chombo from Botswana stepped up to the stage, Megan Young reached out and adjusted the contestant's hair.

Megan Young's actions have displeased and even angered Lesego Chombo's fans on many forums. Comments suggest she was disrespectful and culturally offensive, as the act of touching someone's hair is considered taboo for women in Botswana and Africa in general.
On March 11th, Megan Young explained the incident on her personal page with over five million followers, saying her actions were an expression of concern and not intended to offend. However, Megan Young admitted that she lacked a comprehensive cultural perspective, leading to inappropriate behavior.
"I want to apologize to those who witnessed the incident. My actions were thoughtless and disrespectful, and I will take responsibility for them. I affirm that I did not intend to invade personal space or deliberately cause anyone discomfort. I deeply regret it and will try not to repeat it in the future," Miss World 2013 stated.
Megan Young added that she spoke privately with Lesego Chombo at the hotel after the finals, and Chombo apologized to her.

At the competition, Lesego Chombo impressed by being the only contestant to reach the top in all the preliminary rounds, receiving high praise from many international beauty websites. She was the last African representative to reach the top 4 and also won the Miss World Africa title.
The 24-year-old beauty, standing 1.75m tall, was crowned Miss Botswana 2022. She holds a law degree from the University of Botswana and currently practices law at the Supreme Court of Botswana. For many years, Lesego Chombo has been involved in charitable activities helping underprivileged children.

Megan Young, 34, was born in the United States and holds Filipino citizenship. In 2013, she participated in and won Miss World. She subsequently won the title of "Most Beautiful Woman in the World 2013" as voted by Global Beauties. She has developed a career as a model, actress, and TV presenter in her home country, hosting the Miss World finals for several seasons.
