Megan Young's actions have displeased and even angered Lesego Chombo's fans on many forums. Comments suggest she was disrespectful and culturally offensive, as the act of touching someone's hair is considered taboo for women in Botswana and Africa in general.

On March 11th, Megan Young explained the incident on her personal page with over five million followers, saying her actions were an expression of concern and not intended to offend. However, Megan Young admitted that she lacked a comprehensive cultural perspective, leading to inappropriate behavior.

"I want to apologize to those who witnessed the incident. My actions were thoughtless and disrespectful, and I will take responsibility for them. I affirm that I did not intend to invade personal space or deliberately cause anyone discomfort. I deeply regret it and will try not to repeat it in the future," Miss World 2013 stated.

Megan Young added that she spoke privately with Lesego Chombo at the hotel after the finals, and Chombo apologized to her.
