Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association Luong Xuan Doan presented a commemorative medal to painter Chu Nhat Quang at the launching event of the Chu Nhat Quang Contemporary Art Space - Body shape in Hanoi on December 7. The new member admission ceremony will be held in the near future.
On December 8, Mr. Luong Xuan Doan shared with Tuoi Tre Online the reason for the special award of a commemorative medal to Chu Nhat Quang as well as the special admission of him to the Vietnam Fine Arts Association.
Special privileges to encourage young brothers
Mr. Doan said recently, artist Chu Nhat Quang successfully organized two exhibitions , Sacred Mark and Independent Spring . The works show that the 9X artist is courageous, confident and has a clear artistic personality .
His paintings are also of interest to collectors. At the event on December 7, two lacquer paintings were sold for 1 billion VND ( Linh ) and 100,000 USD (nearly 2.7 billion VND, Tinh Huong ).
In particular, his work Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence in the exhibition Spring of Independence was later awarded the Guinness World Record with the title "Largest monolithic lacquer painting".
His next major project is the series of paintings "Portraits of President Ho Chi Minh Through the Ages," combining traditional techniques and new experimental forms.
Mr. Doan said approaching the image of President Ho Chi Minh was an extremely difficult challenge even for the older generation of painters, but Chu Nhat Quang dared to do it and did it thoroughly, which is a very admirable courage.
"We give special awards and admit members to encourage young people. The association has changed its perspective when considering admitting members," said Mr. Doan.

Also consider special membership for self-taught painter Le Thi
The President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association further explained Chu Nhat Quang's special case. Normally, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association only considers awarding the medal "For the Cause of Vietnamese Fine Arts" to its members, but Chu Nhat Quang was specially recognized.

Regarding membership admission, previously, regulations required artists to have a certain number of national and regional exhibitions. However, currently, artists only need to submit a dossier containing 15 works in various fine arts disciplines. The specialized councils of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association will review these works to decide whether they meet the eligibility criteria for membership.
Artist Chu Nhat Quang also submitted his application as required, but it can still be considered a special case because the artist has only appeared before the public for over a year with two solo exhibitions.
Mr. Doan said that Chu Nhat Quang's case is similar to the previous case where the Vietnam Fine Arts Association specially admitted 8 young artists to participate in painting a panorama of the Dien Bien Phu battle at the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum.
"There has been no precedent for this before, but during this term of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, there have been proposals for such special admissions," said Mr. Doan.
He added that this year, in addition to Chu Nhat Quang, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association is also considering special admission of Ms. Le Thi - a person who taught herself to draw when she was over 70 years old and had a special passion for painting, painted thousands of pictures and continued to paint when she was 100 years old.
Artist Chu Nhat Quang said that the entire amount of money from selling paintings worth nearly 4 billion VND on December 7 was used for his dedicated art projects, a program to support autistic children, and an AI project to detect autism early that his family is implementing.
