Nguyen Thi Quynh Chi's first year at the pink TH School passed by so quickly, filled with beautiful memories and new experiences that felt like a dream.
“It’s truly different from the past 10 years! There are so many activities in class and at school that I can clearly see the changes in myself after just one year of studying. I’m doing better in all subjects, have broader knowledge, am more confident, more enthusiastic, and happier…,” Quỳnh Chi said radiantly at the closing ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year.
The school year is vibrant and always busy.
The TH School's closing ceremony series kicked off with musicals, plays, and formal, heartwarming ceremonies, all designed to be appropriate for students of all ages, from preschool to high school.
While at the "Harmony Garden" of the preschool and primary school at TH School Chua Boc, first-grade students confidently performed a vibrant international song on the traditional Vietnamese T'rưng instrument, along with other "borderless" performances that touched the hearts of parents, teachers, and delegates present at the event, the high school graduation ceremony – which began with a lively musical performance by the students themselves using various instruments – also left a lasting impression and beautiful emotions in the hearts of the students who are about to leave, bidding farewell to years of training and remarkable growth at TH School.
“TH School aims for a holistic educational environment, so even the organization of activities like the opening and closing ceremonies is geared towards that goal. All graduation ceremony activities involve students, from brainstorming ideas and writing scripts to creating videos… with the support and guidance of teachers. This not only creates excitement for the students on their special day but also helps them develop many skills,” proudly stated Stephen West, the General Principal of TH School.
According to Mr. Stephen West, in addition to the academic program, the school also offers many other enriching activities such as math competitions, sports days, music events, field trips, etc. "These diverse activities provide opportunities for students to connect with each other and learn more knowledge and skills outside of school," Mr. Stephen West added.
Looking back on the past school year, Nguyen Thi Quynh Chi, who transferred from a public school to TH School this past academic year, shared her feelings: “The difference I experienced at TH School is not only the internationally standardized curriculum and the multinational teaching staff and students, but also the attractive extracurricular activities for students to choose from.”
“At TH School, after each school day, I get to choose to participate in extracurricular activities that I enjoy, with a wide variety of options such as basketball, watercolor painting, music, musicals, and after-school subjects like business and science… In addition, there are continuous, vibrant, and meaningful activities and events such as Art Exhibitions, Winter & Summer Concerts, Happiness Day, opportunities to perform at events organized by embassies and formal conferences, and opportunities to practice entrepreneurship in 'Entrepreneur Day'… Therefore, I had a lively school year with many new things and was always full of energy and busy,” Quynh Chi said.
Beyond extracurricular activities, holistic education is integrated directly into each subject. According to Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang, music teacher at the TH School system, the school's multi-ethnic nature means students learn both Eastern and Western musical instruments. For example, international students learn and enthusiastically master the Vietnamese T'rưng instrument, gaining an understanding of the diversity of different cultures. Subjects like music, art, and drawing help students cultivate aesthetic sense, a love for beauty, creativity, and humanistic qualities. Having the opportunity to perform on large stages in front of hundreds of people also helps them develop confidence, boldness, and self-assurance.
Even a subject often considered difficult and dry like mathematics is taught in a unique way. Daniel Mark Moore, a primary school math teacher, enthusiastically shared the school's unconventional teaching methods, such as learning through math games, integrating math with physical education, and incorporating it into outdoor activities.
"Students will have more practical experiences with mathematics, less abstract concepts, and concrete experiences related to the lesson, developing multi-dimensional thinking instead of always having to fill out spreadsheets," teacher Daniel Mark Moore happily said.
Filling the gaps, fostering global citizenship.
Mr. Stephen West, Headmaster of TH School, said that with the goal of training global citizens, the school understands that the world is changing very rapidly and therefore wants to focus on cooperation, teamwork, and critical thinking skills for students, helping them develop personal qualities and perfect themselves before stepping out into the world.
That's also what students and parents aim for when deciding to enroll in this special school.
Having left her hometown of Nghe An to study at TH School in Hanoi since the 7th grade, and now a 12th-grade student preparing to leave, Vu Nhat Anh shared that she feels her decision was the right one, even though she has to live far away from her family.
“In my opinion, TH School is a worthwhile place to study. It has an international curriculum and a multinational environment. The students are sociable, friendly, and willing to share everything in their lives, supporting each other to progress together. The teachers are dedicated to teaching and caring for me. At TH School, I developed comprehensively, improved my communication skills and test-taking skills, absorbed more knowledge, and became more confident. TH School also helped me express my individuality; it's a place where I can be myself, be confident in myself, and define my own values,” Nhat Anh shared with mixed emotions as she prepares to leave the school she has come to consider her second home.
Recalling his years at the pink-roofed school, the student from Nghe An said he had to study very hard, sometimes until 1 or 2 in the morning. But the school had many activities that helped students relieve academic pressure and develop various skills.
“During my six years of studying at school, I have matured a lot, learned to identify my self-worth, plan my life, and made connections with friends…,” Nhat Anh said.
Watching her son, dressed in his graduation attire, enthusiastically performing music on his 12th-grade graduation day, Bui Thi Hong Phuong, Nhat Anh's mother, was moved to tears.
“Previously, Nhat Anh was a shy boy who was hesitant to socialize. When I decided to send him to Hanoi for boarding school far from home, I had many concerns, but I believed in the dedication of the school's founder, Labor Hero Thai Huong, so I reluctantly entrusted him to TH School. And right after his first day of school, I knew I had made the right choice. Every day, the teachers updated me on his daily life and studies, taking care of his psychology, health, and academics. What was even more meaningful was that I felt my son's growth because, for me, learning is only one part; what's more important is that he develops comprehensively in intellect, morality, physical fitness, and aesthetics, and TH School has nurtured that in him. I feel very satisfied and will continue to enroll my second child in TH School,” Ms. Phuong shared.
"Keep moving forward… Be resilient! Be thoughtful! But above all, be yourself," Thschool Headteacher Stephen West advised the students.
For Quynh Chi, the past school year was not only a year full of new experiences and the development of new skills through a series of extracurricular activities, but it also helped her become more confident in natural science subjects, a field she had previously neglected when attending public school because of the focus on social sciences.
“After a year, I’ve changed my perspective, developed a greater love for science subjects, and feel confident enough to participate in international exams. Another thing I really appreciate is that the teachers encourage students to actively participate in social activities. The school also organizes charity events, helping to raise students’ sense of social responsibility,” Quỳnh Chi shared.
According to Principal Stephen West, helping students prepare to step out into the world, compete and express themselves with international peers, and bring positive value to the community are also goals that TH School aims for.
“The school has given you the time, space, creativity, skills, and inspiration to always be able to learn whatever you want to learn, to understand yourselves, to have a deep sense of your destiny and the paths you can take in life. Be resilient, and always find ways to make a difference in the world by becoming positive change-makers,” said Principal Stephen West.
