In his opening remarks at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ha, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Lak province, stated: Dak Lak in general and Buon Ma Thuot in particular have long been famous for their vast coffee plantations and are known as the "Coffee Capital of Vietnam". Located in the center of the region, Buon Ma Thuot possesses many potentials and advantages, from natural conditions to a glorious historical and cultural tradition, for socio-economic development. Over the past period, Dak Lak province has demonstrated unity, determination, and effort, achieving many significant results, gradually transforming itself and striving to become a developed and prosperous locality with many specialty products, especially coffee, which has become one of the famous brands in the region and the world.

According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the 2023-2024 crop year, the country exported 1,476,842 tons of coffee, with export revenue reaching US$5.425 billion, a decrease of 11.3% in volume but an increase of nearly 33% in value compared to the previous crop year.

At the conference, delegates also discussed the role of businesses in elevating Vietnamese coffee and building the brand of Buon Ma Thuot coffee - a world coffee destination; the coffee export situation, market trends and current barriers to global coffee consumption, and market orientation for the Vietnamese coffee industry.

The conference also provided an opportunity for coffee businesses to promote the value of their products to customers both domestically and internationally.

In his presentation, Mr. Trinh Duc Minh – Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association – stated that climate change is having a profound and serious impact on Vietnam's coffee industry, one of the country's key agricultural exports and a major economic contributor. As the world's second-largest coffee exporter, Vietnam relies heavily on coffee yield and quality, both of which are severely affected by changes in weather and climate. The impact of climate change on Vietnam's coffee industry is related to changes in temperature and rainfall; pest and disease damage; decreased yield and quality of coffee beans; and impacts on coffee growers and socio-economic conditions.
