( Bqp.vn ) - Towards the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), on the morning of March 27, in Hanoi, the Political Academy, in coordination with the People's Army Newspaper and the Institute of Party History (Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy), organized a scientific conference entitled "The Dien Bien Phu Victory - Historical Value and Contemporary Significance".

The delegates attending the workshop.

Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Van Bao, Director of the Political Academy; Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper; and Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Danh Tien, Director of the Institute of Party History, co-chaired the workshop. Attendees included representatives from the Central Propaganda Department; the Central Theoretical Council; and representatives from agencies and units within and outside the military.

The Presidium chaired the conference.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, and Doctor Nguyen Van Bao stated that 70 years ago, on March 13, 1954, under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the General Military Commission and the Campaign Command, the revolutionary armed forces opened fire, beginning the Dien Bien Phu campaign. After 56 days and nights of tenacious and arduous fighting, the campaign ended in complete victory. This extremely glorious victory contributed decisively to the successful conclusion of the resistance war against French colonial aggression, marking the beginning of the collapse of old colonialism and signifying a new stage of development for national liberation revolutions worldwide, for peace , national independence, democracy, and socialism.

Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Van Bao delivered the opening remarks at the workshop.

Lieutenant General, Associate Professor, and Doctor Nguyen Van Bao stated that this seminar is part of a series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, aiming to reaffirm the correctness and ultimate victory of the people's war strategy under the leadership of the Party and the beloved President Ho Chi Minh. It is also an opportunity to review the glorious revolutionary traditions of the nation; to educate the younger generation to remember the great contributions and sacrifices of the people, cadres, and soldiers who spared no blood, sweat, and youth to achieve this great victory, bringing independence and freedom to the Fatherland.

Major General Doan Xuan Bo delivered the opening remarks at the seminar.

In his opening speech at the conference, Major General Doan Xuan Bo emphasized that, with the great stature and significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, there have been hundreds of books, tens of thousands of articles, seminars, and conferences summarizing combat experiences. Many scientific works in Vietnam and abroad have analyzed and explained the significance of the victory, and discussed the reasons for the strength that the Vietnamese army and people had to create the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The Organizing Committee received over 70 papers for the conference. All papers focused on affirming the immense role and strategic brilliance of the Central Party Committee, President Ho Chi Minh, and the General Military Commission in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. The papers deeply analyzed and affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu victory was the pinnacle of Vietnamese military art in the resistance war against France, demonstrated in all three areas: strategic leadership, campaign art, and tactics. A prominent feature was the proactive and creative approach, fighting according to our chosen methods, forcing the enemy into a passive defensive position, and limiting their strengths in numbers, firepower, and mobility.

The scene at the conference.

The victory at Dien Bien Phu affirmed the remarkable maturity of the Vietnam People's Army. Under the leadership, education, and training of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, our army has continuously grown stronger, becoming stronger and more mature with each battle. Throughout the fighting and campaign preparation, with the inherent nature and fine traditions of an army "from the people, fighting for the people," officers and soldiers did not shy away from hardship and sacrifice, finding every way to overcome challenges to successfully complete their missions. At the same time, the presentations delved into analyzing and drawing profound lessons about the resistance strategy; promoting the strength of national unity, combining national strength with the strength of the times; promoting political and spiritual factors; military science and art; political and ideological work; operational planning; logistics; technology; communication; and coordination between agencies, units, and branches of the armed forces.
