Although the North-South Reunification Railway has been restored to traffic after eight days of complete paralysis due to historic floods, the railway industry still has to continue to temporarily suspend many trains to serve repair and reinforcement work, with estimated transport damage of nearly fifty billion VND.

The Railway Transport Joint Stock Company has just announced details about the temporary suspension of some trains on the North-South route. The main reason is that the railway industry is still urgently repairing and overcoming the severe damage caused by storms in the South Central region. Many sections of the route have to run at slow speeds, leading to a significant limitation in the transport capacity of the entire route.
To ensure absolute train safety and to comply with actual operating conditions, the railway industry has decided to temporarily suspend the operation of train pair SE6/SE5 departing from Saigon Station and Hanoi Station during the period from December 2 to December 10, 2025.
At the same time, the SE22/SE21 train pair departing from Saigon Station and Da Nang Station will also temporarily stop running on December 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10, 2025.
For passengers who have purchased tickets on affected trains, the railway industry is providing free ticket refunds. Passengers can return tickets online through the railway's e-ticket website or directly at any station without incurring any fees.
The Railway Transport Joint Stock Company also added that the historic floods in the South Central region have caused serious damage to the railway infrastructure, stretching from the Dieu Tri area to Nha Trang Station, causing continuous traffic congestion from the seventeenth to the twenty-fifth of November 2025. After the route is opened, in order to continue repairing, reinforcing the roadbed and gradually restoring train speeds to normal, the railway still has to limit train traffic through key points, forcing it to adjust train schedules.
As of December 1, due to the impact of this incident, the railway industry has announced the suspension of a total of one hundred and five (105) passenger trains during the period from November 17 to December 10, 2025, and sixty-five (65) freight trains. In addition, the railway industry has provided more than thirty-five thousand (35,000) free meals, including main and side meals, to passengers on affected trains who had to wait along the way. The number of tickets returned to passengers is thirty-nine thousand (39,000), equivalent to nearly twenty-four billion VND. The total estimated damage to passenger and freight transport is nearly fifty billion VND.
