Instructions on how to enable background playback on YouTube to still listen to music when the screen is off

A useful feature of YouTube is enabling background play, which allows videos to continue running and music to play even when your phone screen is off.

When you upgrade to YouTube Premium, the background playback feature will be automatically activated. But if you have purchased it but still don't know how to use it, discover how to enable background playback on YouTube in the article below.

Step 1: Open the YouTube app on your phone and tap on the avatar icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Next, a list of options will appear, find and select Settings.

Step 2: Once in the app's Settings, tap on Background Play and Downloads. In the Background Play section, tap on the Playback sub-item.

Here, there will be 3 modes for you to choose from: Always On, the sound will always be played in the background when you turn off the screen. Headphones or external speakers will only be activated when you connect to external music playing devices. Finally, Off mode to not use the background playback mode. If your phone is selected Off mode, adjust it back to mode 1 or 2 and you're done.
