On March 24, Iran denied media reports that its oil tankers, seized by the US Navy in the Persian Gulf, had falsified Iraqi paperwork.
According to Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, reports quoting Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani that Iranian oil tankers seized by the US Navy were carrying Iraqi cargo manifests are untrue.
In an interview with Shana News, an agency affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Oil, Mousavi stated that Iran has sold oil in accordance with regulations and criteria for oil trading.
The Iraqi Oil Minister's statements were not fully reflected, and he merely quoted US officials. Mousavi added that the US officials' statements were baseless accusations aimed at putting pressure on Iran. These statements lack any basis or credibility.
Iran's move comes amid increased unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on Iranian oil exports.
Earlier last month, President Donald Trump increased pressure on Iran to bring its oil exports to zero and prevent the use of oil revenues for Iran's nuclear program.
