Thieves boldly stole more than 1 ton of ginger, a Lam Dong farmer lost nearly 20 million VND

On September 21, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (29 years old, Hoai Duc commune, Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province) said that he had just had 11 ginger plots stolen by thieves, estimated to be about 1.5 tons of fresh ginger.

Mr. Tuan said that he rented 1.4 hectares of land in Phuc Tan village (Phuc Tho commune, Lam Ha district) to grow ginger. Up to now, his family's ginger garden is growing well, about 2 months from now it will be ready for harvest but was stolen by thieves.

"On September 20, I sent a worker to dig up ginger roots, then a neighbor near the garden reported that someone had stolen ginger. After that, my worker called and I went to check the ginger garden.

After checking the ginger garden, I discovered that 11 plots of ginger (estimated at about 1,000m2) had been stolen by thieves.

Of these, the thieves broke off about 8 of the roots, and the remaining 3 still had not been able to take the roots. After that, my family cut the ginger roots in the remaining 3 cells and got nearly 500kg," said Mr. Tuan.

Mr. Tuan added that the 8 plots of ginger that were stolen by thieves were estimated to weigh about 1.5 tons. Meanwhile, it will take about 2 more months for Mr. Tuan to harvest. If given enough time, the 1,000m2 above will yield 4-5 tons of tubers.

With the current price of ginger at around 13,000 VND/kg, Mr. Tuan has lost nearly 20 million VND.

The ginger garden owner also stated that with about 1.5 tons of ginger, the thieves would have to pack it in about 20 bags.

Therefore, the ginger theft must be a group of people, 1 to 2 people can hardly take that amount of ginger out. In particular, Mr. Tuan's ginger garden is located right in the center of Phuc Tho commune, so the ginger thieves are very aggressive.

After the ginger is pulled out, the roots are cut and transported outside.

After discovering the incident, Mr. Tuan reported it to the Phuc Tho Commune Police. On September 20, the leaders of the Phuc Tho Commune Police came to the scene, worked with Mr. Tuan to verify and clarify the incident.

Currently, to ensure that his ginger garden does not continue to be stolen, Mr. Tuan has had to assign someone to sleep in the house in the garden to guard it.
