Oversized and overweight structures: Declaration of Vietnam's industrial capacity

As national competitiveness is increasingly shaped by technical content and industrial organization, oversized and overweight structures have emerged as a new symbol – where each component not only requires large-scale mechanical precision, but also reflects design expertise, quality management capabilities and cross-border execution capabilities.

In Ho Chi Minh City's rapidly transforming industrial ecosystem, Dai Dung Group stands out as a prime example of a Vietnamese enterprise capable of participating in projects requiring high technical expertise and stringent international standards.

That status is clearly demonstrated through a series of large-scale projects. The National Exhibition and Convention Center – one of the 10 largest in the world – boasts a dome structure with a diameter of 360 meters, with central pillars weighing hundreds of tons, presenting a complex engineering challenge in terms of spatial arrangement and load-bearing capacity. The Hoa Phat Dung Quat steel complex, with its warehouse spanning 170 meters – the largest span in Southeast Asia – demonstrates the ability to handle large structures with high precision. The Shiplift system serving the US Navy has a load capacity of 25,000 tons, with main beams 38 meters long, 3.5 meters high, and weighing 110 tons, requiring quality control at the defense level. In the field of renewable energy, the Greater Changhua offshore wind project (Taiwan) – with a capacity of 2.4 GW, each support tower measuring 16 meters high, 14 meters in diameter, and weighing 350 tons – is a testament to the production and export capabilities of a Vietnamese contractor on the global stage.

Behind the series of complex engineering projects lies the mark of Mr. Trinh Tien Dung – Chairman and CEO of Dai Dung Group, considered the "chief architect" in the group's integrated industrial development strategy. With his extensive expertise, he directly guides many superior design solutions from design, procurement, production, transportation, and erection, ensuring the timely completion of highly challenging projects – from oversized and heavy structures and large spans to full load testing complexes. His integrated thinking between engineering and operations has enabled him to build a production-logistics model closely linked to seaports, laying the foundation for Dai Dung to participate in the global supply chain with projects requiring international standards and specialized construction capabilities.

With his strategic vision, Dai Dung's factory system is planned in key economic zones in the South and Central regions, directly connected to deep-water ports and international airports such as Cai Mep - Thi Vai, SP-PSA, Gemadept, Cat Lai, Hiep Phuoc… Located on vital trade routes, this helps shorten delivery times, optimize transportation, and respond quickly to multinational projects – especially those requiring the transportation of large components along specific routes.

Not stopping at just production, Dai Dung is one of the few businesses in the industry that owns the entire value chain – from providing solutions, design, procurement, manufacturing, transportation to on-site installation. Its factories operate under the ISO 14001 environmental management system, and its products are EPD and LEED Gold certified – certifications demonstrating a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and meeting green building standards. This is not only a step forward in ESG, but also a core competitive advantage in the process of integrating into the global supply chain – where sustainability is becoming the norm rather than the exception.

Alongside infrastructure, a system of standards serves as a pillar guaranteeing the quality of every component shipped. From ISO 9001, ISO 45001 to EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 1090-1 EXC4 – the highest level in the European standard system – these certifications enable businesses to meet the most stringent technical requirements. Certifications such as ASME (U, S, R Stamp), AISC (USA), CWB W47.1 (Canada), along with a series of emission measurement standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064, not only open up international markets but also affirm compliance capabilities at the system level, something few businesses in Southeast Asia can simultaneously achieve.

Ultimately, the construction of oversized and heavy structures is not just an achievement of the steel structure and mechanical engineering industry, but also the pinnacle of industrial organization. The ability of a Vietnamese enterprise to design, manufacture, erect, and export complex technical components to the global market is not merely a commercial success, but concrete proof of the inherent capabilities of the industry. In this role, Dai Dung is contributing to positioning Vietnam as a core technical manufacturing hub in the region – where structures are not only manufactured but also refined as part of the national industrial identity.
