Established and developed since 1991, the World Mind Sports Championship (WMC) is considered the "Olympics" of intellectual sports . This year, overcoming many strong contenders, Vietnam was entrusted by the World Mind Sports Council (WMSC) with hosting the event. This not only affirms Vietnam's capacity to organize an international-level event but also realizes the vision of making our country a "New Destination for Global Intellectuals".
These days, Tan Son Nhat International Airport is always bustling with the continuous arrival of teams from memory powerhouses such as the UK, Germany, the US, Japan, China, India, and Mongolia. Contestants gather here to compete in 10 of the most demanding disciplines testing speed, accuracy, and mental endurance (Fast number memorization, Abstract imagery, Auditory number memorization, etc.). The competition promises to be full of drama, as spectators will witness the combination of human intelligence and technological capabilities at the highest level.

11 YEARS OF PERSISTENTLY SOWING SEEDS
Born into a poor family in Khanh Hoa, Nguyen Phung Phong, a student who later became a World Memory Champion (2016), moved with his parents to Dong Nai at the age of 7 to start a new life. He always harbored a burning desire to bring this prestigious tournament to Vietnam. The remarkable growth of the Vietnamese team members on the international stage over the years has built great prestige, and today, that wait has been justly rewarded. "I have always harbored a great aspiration: to provide Vietnamese students with access to engaging and enjoyable learning methods, so that every day at school is a day filled with the joy of discovery . When children love learning, they will open up a bright future for themselves and for the country. Therefore, when I received the announcement from the World Intellectual Sports Council that Vietnam is officially the host country for the 34th edition of the competition, I was extremely happy and moved. This is not only our joy, but also the pride of the entire nation," shared record holder Nguyen Phung Phong.

It was this aspiration that led Mr. Nguyen Phung Phong and his colleagues, with the support of the leaders of the Vietnam Record Organization and the late General Secretary Le Tran Truong An, to diligently "sow the seeds." For 11 years, he tirelessly worked with domestic and regional competitions, building a highly skilled and well-trained team. Among them, promising talents like Dang Thu Hien and Dang Ngoc Phuong Trinh have repeatedly competed and proven their abilities at the World Memory Championships.

" THERE WILL BE UNPRECEDENTED RECORDS"
Regarding the scale of the competition, Mr. Nguyen Phung Phong, Vice President of the World Council of Intellectual Sports and Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee, stated: "This year's judging panel consists of 60 members from 24 countries, professionally trained under the leadership of the Head of the Judging Panel - Mr. Teo Kim Foo, who has dedicated many years to the development of world intellectual sports." Notably, this year's tournament is honored to welcome the presence of the memory legend - Dominic O'Brien, an 8-time world champion. As Head of Ethics, Mr. Dominic O'Brien will work alongside the judging panel to ensure that each competition is conducted with absolute transparency, integrity, and fairness.
Regarding the contestants, this year's tournament brings together nearly 300 outstanding individuals from more than 20 countries and territories. Among them are champions possessing extraordinary memory abilities such as Enrico Marraffa (Italy), Gunther Kasten (Germany), Naranzul Otgon Ulaan (Mongolia), Vishvaa Rajakumar (India), and Vietnam's pride, Phương Trinh…
According to experts, the Mongolian team is considered the strongest contender with a well-balanced squad. However, the race for medals remains a fascinating unknown, as the "intellectual warriors" from Italy, India, and Vietnam all possess the potential for a strong breakthrough.
"I've witnessed the history of this tournament for the past 34 years, but the energy and preparation of Vietnam this year have truly amazed me. With the application of new technology and a wonderful spirit of hospitality, I believe WMC 2025 will be the most emotional tournament and create unprecedented records," said Raymond Keene, President of the World Council on Intellectual Sports.
Entering the world's super-intelligence arena on home soil, the Vietnamese Super Memory Team has set a clear goal: to strive for 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals in 10 events. This is not just a goal in terms of achievement, but also an affirmation that Vietnamese intelligence has the courage, ambition, and strength to break through and shine.
