Vu Thi Trang has a chance to win the bronze medal in the women's doubles event at the SEA Games 33.
At the 33rd SEA Games, Nguyen Thuy Linh was Vietnam's biggest hope in badminton, being seeded number 4 in the women's singles. At the peak of her form, currently ranked 22nd in the world and placed in a relatively favorable bracket, Nguyen Thuy Linh disappointed by being eliminated in the first round after losing to Pratiwi (Indonesia, ranked 82nd in the world). Prior to that, Nguyen Thuy Linh and the Vietnamese women's badminton team also bowed out in the quarterfinals of the team event after losing to Malaysia.

Vu Thi Trang also stopped at the first round of the women's singles event when she faced the third seed Katethong (world No. 12). She continued to compete in the women's doubles event, partnering with her younger teammate Bui Bich Phuong. Although no longer at the peak of her form, the wife of tennis player Nguyen Tien Minh gave her all, and together with Bui Bich Phuong, created a big surprise by defeating the third seeded pair Ornnicha/Sukitta (world No. 48) to advance to the quarterfinals.
The door to the semi-finals is wide open for Vu Thi Trang/Bui Bich Phuong as they face the weaker pair Andrea Princess/Mary Destiny (Philippines) in the quarter-finals at 2 PM today. If they defeat their opponents, Vu Thi Trang and her teammate will at least win a bronze medal. Also in the women's doubles event, the Vietnamese badminton pair Pham Thi Khanh/Pham Thi Dieu Ly have advanced to the quarter-finals, where they will face the fourth-seeded pair Rachel Alllessya/Febi (Indonesia).
