Water samples from the area where sea bass died in Thach Son commune (Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province ) have been sent to the Northern Center for Environmental Monitoring and Aquatic Animal Diseases and are expected to receive results in 3-4 days.
Officials from the Ha Tinh Fisheries Department are taking water samples from three areas on the Nghen River to determine the cause of the fish deaths.
On the afternoon of October 6th, the Ha Tinh Fisheries Sub-Department, in coordination with the Thach Son commune authorities (Thach Ha district), collected water samples from the Nghen River below the Do Diem sluice gate to determine the cause of the mass death of 50 tons of sea bass raised in cages by residents of Song Tien village, Thach Son commune, that occurred earlier that morning.
The working group collected water samples from three areas on the Nghèn River, including the section near the Đò Điệm sluice gate, the middle of the river, and the water inside the fish cages.
The water samples were placed in three plastic containers and sent to the Northern Center for Environmental Monitoring and Aquatic Animal Diseases for analysis.
Three water samples were carefully collected in three 2-liter plastic containers. During the sampling process, the working group from the Ha Tinh Fisheries Sub-Department also checked the salinity, pH, and alkalinity of the water samples in the three sampling areas.
Initial test results indicate that the three water samples analyzed by the task force showed no abnormalities.
Initial checks revealed no abnormalities in several basic water quality indicators in the fish farming area.
However, according to Mr. Luong Sy Cong, Deputy Head of the Aquaculture Department (Ha Tinh Fisheries Sub-Department), to obtain the most accurate results, the unit contacted and sent water samples to the Northern Center for Environmental Monitoring and Aquatic Animal Diseases (Research Institute of Aquaculture I) for analysis to clarify the cause. The results of the water sample analysis are expected in 3-4 days.

Earlier, on the morning of October 6th, many fish farmers in Song Hai village, Thach Son commune, Thach Ha district were devastated to witness their farmed fish suddenly dying en masse.
According to statistics from the People's Committee of Thach Son commune, 53 households raising sea bass in more than 200 cages on the Nghen River suffered a mass fish kill, totaling 50 tons. The dead fish had been raised for 1-3 years, with each fish weighing from 0.7 to 2.5 kg.
According to fish farmers in Thach Son commune, before the fish kill occurred, the Do Diem sluice gate was opened to regulate water levels. However, on the morning of October 6th, the discharge volume was high and the water was cloudier than usual.
50 tons of sea bass belonging to residents of Song Hai village died en masse.
According to local residents, the large volume of freshwater flowing from the Do Diem estuary caused a sudden change in the environment of the fish cages, combined with the possibility of water pollution, leading to water shock for the fish.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the commune mobilized manpower to assist people in collecting the dead fish from the cages and calling on residents to join hands in "rescuing" the dead fish to help people reduce losses.
Local authorities dispatched forces to assist residents in collecting the fish.
This is not the first time that fish raised in cages under the Do Diem sluice gate in Song Hai village (Thach Son commune) have died. Before the incident, the local authorities had announced, even advised and urged people to harvest the fish that had reached the appropriate weight. However, the households hesitated to sell and tried to raise them for a longer period.
