Technical forces urgently handle 110kV underground cable incident, ensuring complete restoration of power supply to Phu Quoc special economic zone

By 22:42 on December 5, Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) and An Giang Power Company, together with related units, had successfully energized the 110kV overhead line, fixed the problem of the 110kV underground cable Ha Tien - Phu Quoc and completely restored power supply to all customers on the island. The completion progress was 5 days earlier than the expected schedule (December 10).

The 110kV overhead line was built from the underground cable connection point to the shore on the Ha Tien side to the incident point with a total of 4 towers. The project was deployed and completed in a very short time, meeting the power supply needs for production, business and daily life of people and businesses on the pearl island.

This result was achieved thanks to the strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of An Giang province; the coordination and support of departments, branches and sectors; especially the sharing and companionship of the government, businesses and people in Phu Quoc special zone. The Southern Power System Control Center (SSO) proactively developed a power supply plan after the incident, prepared the power connection method and technical conditions to soon bring the system back to stable operation.

Along with that is the high determination of the collective leadership, officers, employees of EVN SPC, An Giang Power Company and related units during the construction, operation and incident handling process.

After temporarily restoring power supply using the 110kV overhead line, An Giang Electricity Company continued to coordinate with units to deploy technical steps to repair the damaged underground cable section, and at the same time restore the status quo according to regulations.

Previously, at 1:15 p.m. on November 29, an incident on the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable caused a power outage at the 110kV Phu Quoc Station, affecting the entire power supply system on the island. The cause was determined to be that Thuan Thanh KG Construction Design Consulting Co., Ltd. was constructing a platform in the cable line's safety corridor, causing an impact on the underground cable section and leading to the incident.

Immediately after the incident, An Giang Electricity Company activated the priority power supply plan from the 110/22kV South Phu Quoc Station via the 22kV grid for special customers; mobilized large customers to operate their own backup generators to share the load. EVN SPC also mobilized 20 mobile diesel generators from member power companies, with a total capacity of 3.5 MW, to transport to the island to temporarily increase the power supply.

Restoring full power supply to Phu Quoc in a short time not only ensures stable life and production, but also demonstrates the power industry's ability to quickly respond to complex incidents, especially in offshore island areas.
