The Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Province Police has just issued a decision to prosecute and detain another suspect for "Violating regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals".
On the afternoon of January 20, information from Ha Tinh Provincial Police said that, related to the case of buying and selling an individual sun bear of an endangered, precious, and rare species that occurred previously in Huong Khe district, the Economic Police Department has just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Thi Huong (born in 1979, residing in Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district, Kon Tum province) for the act of "Violating regulations on the protection of endangered, precious, and rare animals".
Nguyen Thi Huong brokered for Nguyen Van Hien (born in 1979, residing in village 7, Huong Lam commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, previously prosecuted and detained) to buy a 65kg sun bear.
Initially, Nguyen Thi Huong admitted her actions and confessed that when Nguyen Van Hien contacted to buy the bear, Huong contacted a man in Kon Tum province to discuss the purchase and sale. After reaching an agreement, this man transported the bear to Ha Tinh and handed it over to Hien; if the transaction was successful, Huong would receive 5 million VND.
As reported by SGGPO Newspaper, previously, at 12:00 on December 25, 2023, at residential group 5, Huong Khe town, the working group of the Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Police in coordination with Huong Khe District Police discovered and caught red-handed Duong Thi Phuong (born in 1975, residing in village 8, Huong Lam commune, Huong Khe district) in the act of buying and selling 1 individual sun bear.
From Phuong's testimony, the police arrested Nguyen Van Hien - the subject who bought the above mentioned bear and asked Duong Thi Phuong to sell it to customers in need.
Expanding the investigation, the working group urgently searched the house of Dinh Thi Kieu (born in 1978, residing in village 7, Huong Lam commune, Huong Khe district), and discovered 1 king cobra (endangered, precious, rare species) and 5 civets and palm civets (common species).
On December 30, 2023, the Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Police executed decisions to prosecute and arrest Nguyen Van Hien, Duong Thi Phuong, and Dinh Thi Kieu for the act of "Violating regulations on the protection of endangered, precious, and rare animals".
Currently, the Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Police is continuing to investigate and handle the subjects according to the law.
