At the Oncology Department of Xuyen A General Hospital, doctors conducted clinical examinations, performed abdominal ultrasound, upper abdominal CT scan, and colonoscopy, discovering that the patient had a left colon tumor with a size of 8 cm located near the splenic flexure.

On September 29th, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, a specialist in Oncology at Xuyen A General Hospital, stated that given the patient's condition, the doctors held a consultation and decided to proceed with laparoscopic surgery. During the surgery, the team removed a nearly 40 cm segment of the colon and rectum containing the tumor, while preserving the surrounding organs. After the surgery, the tumor was subjected to pathological examination, which revealed it to be malignant.

Five days after surgery, the patient recovered, the abdominal pain subsided, and the patient was discharged with a scheduled follow-up appointment. The patient was advised on the next course of treatment, which is chemotherapy to prevent recurrence.

Dr. Huy explained that colon cancer often develops silently and shows no clinical symptoms in the early stages, making it difficult to diagnose. Therefore, by the time clinical symptoms appear, the tumor is usually in a late stage. At that point, the tumor often invades neighboring organs, posing a significant challenge to laparoscopic surgery.
