On March 13-14, foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized countries gathered at the La Malbaie resort in Canada to discuss a series of important global issues.

According to Kyodo news agency, this is the first "comprehensive" conference since US President Donald Trump took office for a second term on January 20.

On March 12, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that the first major issues on the conference's agenda would be a potential ceasefire in Ukraine and the resumption of US military aid to Kiev.

According to him, the G7 wants Russia's special military campaign in Ukraine to end as soon as possible and "Europe united with the US can achieve this".

On March 14, before concluding the conference, the foreign ministers will exchange views on challenges from countries such as China, Iran and North Korea, as well as cooperation for peace in Africa.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the conference will not discuss President Donald Trump's statement that he wants to make Canada the 51st state of the United States.

According to Reuters , G7 foreign ministers are aiming to issue a joint statement emphasizing their support for US-led efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine and commitment to a free, open and secure Indo- Pacific region, while opposing any unilateral efforts to change the status quo in the region or elsewhere.

Regarding the proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine, Secretary of State Rubio said that the world "is eagerly awaiting Russia's response and strongly urges them to consider ending all military actions."

“If Russia says ‘no,’ that will tell us a lot about their goals and their thinking,” the top US diplomat noted.

On March 12, two informed sources revealed that Russia sent the US a list of demands for an agreement to end the conflict with Ukraine, as well as reset relations with Washington.

According to the sources, Russian and US officials have discussed these terms in direct and online conversations over the past three weeks. The terms put forward by Moscow are relatively broad and similar to the demands it has previously sent to Ukraine, the US and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

It is unclear what Moscow’s specific demands for the deal are, or whether it is ready to engage in peace talks with Kiev. Among the terms Russia has previously put forward are that NATO will not admit Ukraine and that foreign troops will not be deployed in Kiev.

The Russian Embassy in Washington and the White House have not commented on the above information.
