According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold air mass has affected most of the Northeast region and some places in the North Central region, causing scattered light rain and a decrease in temperature. At Bach Long Vi island station, strong Northeast winds of level 6 were recorded.
It is forecasted that this afternoon and tonight (December 4), the cold air will continue to expand its influence to the Northwest region and some places in the North Central region. Northeast wind inland is strong at level 2-3, coastal areas at level 3-4.
Due to the impact of cold air, the weather in the North and North Central regions turns cold, especially in the mountainous areas of the North where there are places with severe cold.
The lowest temperature during this period (day and night of December 4-5) is forecasted as follows:
- Northern and North Central regions: Common temperature from 15-18 degrees Celsius.
- Northern mountainous areas: Commonly from 13-15 degrees Celsius.
- High mountain areas: Temperature drops sharply, in some places below 12 degrees Celsius.
- Hanoi area: Sometimes there is light rain, cold weather with the lowest temperature ranging from 15-18 degrees Celsius.
Authorities warn that cold weather can adversely affect people's health, as well as the growth of crops and livestock.
Worryingly, this cold air mass combined with disturbances in the upper easterly wind zone will create bad weather patterns in the Central region. Specifically, the area from South Quang Tri to Da Nang City and the East of Quang Ngai province will have widespread moderate to heavy rain.
Localized heavy rain in a short period of time poses a high risk of causing flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams; and landslides in steep areas.
At sea, the Northeast monsoon is getting stronger, posing a danger to maritime activities.
- North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa archipelago): Strong Northeast wind level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8-9. Waves 4.0 - 6.0m high, rough sea.
- Gulf of Tonkin and sea area from South Quang Tri to Quang Ngai : Strong wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7. Waves 2.0 - 4.0m high (in Gulf of Tonkin, waves 2.0 - 3.0m high), rough sea.
- Northern sea area of the Central East Sea: Strong wind level 6, gust level 7-8, waves 2.0 - 5.0m high.
In addition, from early morning on December 5, the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau will also have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 7-8, and rough seas.
