After a 3-1 win over India, the Vietnamese women's team climbed to second place in Group C of the second qualifying round for the 2024 Olympics. We have the same 3 points as Uzbekistan but are ranked higher due to a better goal difference. Japan tops the group with 6 points and a goal difference of +9.

In the second qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics, only the top three teams in each group will advance. The best second-placed team will also advance to the third qualifying round (consisting of four teams). Goal difference will be given priority if two teams are tied on points.
In the context of having to face the Japanese women's team in the final round, the Vietnamese women's team has little hope of winning a ticket to the next round. But that does not mean that coach Mai Duc Chung's team does not have a chance to create a miracle.
If they want to win first place in Group C, the Vietnamese women's team needs to win by at least five goals against Japan and at the same time hope that Uzbekistan does not win by more than six goals against India.
In case of winning by at least 5 goals against Japan, the Vietnamese women's team certainly cannot take the top spot in the group due to a lower goal difference compared to this opponent.

Of course, the possibility of the Vietnamese team winning big against Japan is unimaginable. Because the team from the Land of the Rising Sun is completely superior in class to the Vietnamese girls. In past meetings, the Vietnamese women's team always lost big to this opponent. Most recently, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team lost 0-7 to Japan at the 19th Asian Games.
If they lose to Japan, the Vietnamese women's team needs to keep the gap at a minimum and at the same time hope that Uzbekistan loses to India. Then the "golden star" team will be second in Group C. We have to wait for the results in Group A and B to compete with the remaining second-placed teams.
In case of a draw with Japan, coach Mai Duc Chung's team will only advance if the following scenarios simultaneously occur: Uzbekistan does not beat India, the Philippines does not beat Iran in Group A, North Korea loses to Thailand and China loses to South Korea in Group B.
Regardless, the Vietnamese team will enter the match against Japan with the highest determination. This match will take place at 5:00 p.m. on November 1.
