Co.opmart supermarket in Ha Tinh is running many promotional programs for the year-end season.

As a leading retailer in Ha Tinh City, Mr. Tran Dinh Chung – head of marketing at Co.opmart Ha Tinh supermarket – said: “The supermarket continuously implements promotional programs to stimulate demand during Christmas and New Year with various forms of promotions such as: direct discounts on products, gifts, buy one get one free, accumulating receipts to receive gifts... These focus on items with high consumer demand at the end of the year and Tet gift baskets. In December, purchasing power at the supermarket gradually increased compared to the previous period, and we hope that the number of shoppers will increase closer to Tet.”

For electronics, home appliances, clothing, shoes, accessories, motorcycles, cars, etc., dealerships are also heavily promoting attractive promotional programs to attract customers. Ms. Ngoc Anh – manager of the Savani fashion store in Ha Tinh City – said: “The store is running a ‘New Year's Clearance Sale’ program with discounts up to 80% along with gifts to attract customers. These attractive promotions, combined with the colder weather, have led to a surge in demand for clothing these days.”

Not only do year-end promotions benefit sellers, but they also help people buy goods at good prices, saving on consumer expenses. “The end of the year, especially leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), is always a time when we have to buy a lot of things, so I often monitor the promotional information of large businesses to buy products at discounted prices compared to the listed price,” said Ms. Nguyen Phuong Huyen (Van Yen Ward, Ha Tinh City).

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, trade and service activities in the province experienced significant growth in the last months of 2023. The supply of goods was ensured and diverse, and prices remained relatively stable. Many promotional and discount programs implemented by businesses not only supported production and business but also served as effective solutions to stabilize the market, creating more room for economic recovery and development.

According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade, purchasing power tends to increase in the last month of the year. Specifically, retail sales in December 2023 reached over 5,892 billion VND, an increase of 8.6% compared to November 2023, focusing on product groups such as: food; clothing; household goods, tools and equipment; passenger cars, etc.

According to forecasts from the Department of Industry and Trade, purchasing power during the end of 2023 and the Lunar New Year 2024 will increase by approximately 5-10% compared to the same period last year and by 20-25% compared to normal days. From now until the Lunar New Year, the demand for goods and travel will increase significantly, and the retail market will be more vibrant. To ensure sufficient supply for the end-of-year period and the increased demand for Tet shopping, distribution and retail units have proactively stockpiled items expected to have high consumption to avoid disruptions in the supply of goods and sudden price increases.

Distribution and retail businesses have proactively stockpiled goods to meet consumer demand during the year-end holiday season.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement solutions to ensure a balance between supply and demand and stabilize the market at the end of 2023 and during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon 2024. Accordingly, the goods included in the price stabilization program are: rice, pork, beef, chicken, poultry eggs, seafood, sugar, MSG, seasoning powder, soy sauce, fish sauce, cooking oil, vegetables, bottled water, and gasoline.

As one of the businesses participating in stabilizing the market at the end of 2023 and during the Lunar New Year, Mr. Vo Cong Hai – Director of Winmart supermarket in Ha Tinh – said: “We proactively planned and worked with production units early on to prepare a large quantity of goods to serve the increased shopping demand of consumers during the end of the year and Tet holiday, with a total value of goods of about 20 billion VND. The main items we focus on are food, spices, confectionery, and beverages... Currently, many Tet holiday items have been stocked in our warehouse, while items with a short shelf life will arrive later.”

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Vo Ta Nghia: “Following the plan of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade is leading and coordinating with relevant organizations and units to implement the plan. The focus is on monitoring market developments and the supply of goods, especially essential items; proactively developing plans and coordinating with relevant units to propose to the Provincial People's Committee measures to balance supply and demand and stabilize the market. Along with that, we are promoting activities to implement the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods," organizing programs to bring Vietnamese goods to rural areas combined with trade fairs to stimulate consumer demand, ensuring that goods are distributed to consumers conveniently...”.

Ha Tinh market management forces are controlling the circulation of goods in the area during the year-end period.

Relevant units such as the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Health, the Department of Finance, the Market Management Department, etc., according to their assigned functions and tasks, also proactively implement solutions, regularly monitor and grasp market price fluctuations; assess the production and supply of food in the area to the market; and strengthen management and inspection of food safety...

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khoa, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Market Management Department, stated: “The Market Management Department is focusing and decisively implementing its management work in the area, strengthening market inspections and controls to detect and handle violations related to counterfeit goods, imitation products, and commercial fraud. Special attention is paid to essential goods and items with high consumer demand during the year-end period. At the same time, we are strictly inspecting and handling illegal transportation and trading of firecrackers and fireworks of all kinds.”
