Lam Dong province has set the groundbreaking date for the Tan Phu-Bao Loc expressway project for December 19th. Along with the Bao Loc-Lien Khuong expressway project, which commenced in June 2025, these are the "pieces" that will complete the entire Dau Giay-Lien Khuong expressway, forming a seamless backbone transportation axis.

Alongside the implementation of expressway projects, the upgrading of Lien Khuong International Airport, and the synchronization of regional connectivity routes, Lam Dong is gradually completing its "runways" for strong and sustainable development in the future.

Making the highway dream a reality.

The Tan Phu-Bao Loc Expressway project is a key national project celebrating the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. At a meeting with relevant agencies, units, and localities regarding the plan to commence this expressway project, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai emphasized: The Tan Phu-Bao Loc Expressway is a project of significant importance to the locality in particular and the whole country in general. The project not only has economic significance but also represents an important political milestone, demonstrating the province's determination to promote regional connectivity and create new impetus for development.

The Tan Phu ( Dong Nai ) - Bao Loc (Lam Dong) Expressway is a Group A project, meeting Class I road standards, implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) - BOT contract. The total length of the route is nearly 66 km, of which nearly 54 km is located in Lam Dong province. The phased construction will have 4 lanes, a roadbed width of 17m, and intermittent emergency stopping areas; the completed phase will have a roadbed width of 22m and a design speed of 80 km/h. In early December 2025, the Lam Dong Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board No. 1 approved Son Hai Group Co., Ltd. as the investor for the project; the total investment proposed by the investor is over VND 14,400 billion, with construction expected to be completed in December 2027; the operation and business period is 23 years and 9 months.

Mr. Le Van Son, from Da Huoai 2 commune, Lam Dong province, shared: “We believe that the Tan Phu-Bao Loc expressway, part of the Dau Giay-Lien Khuong expressway, when completed, will create new impetus for development in Lam Dong and the region; contributing to shortening travel time and increasing connectivity with southern economic centers.”

Currently, Lam Dong province has three key transportation projects underway: the Tan Phu-Bao Loc expressway project, the Bao Loc-Lien Khuong expressway project, and the western section of the North-South expressway, Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh. In July 2025, the Ministry of Construction issued a document supporting the principle of researching and adding the Phan Thiet-Bao Loc-Gia Nghia expressway, a provincial-wide connecting expressway, to the road infrastructure plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

It can be said that each of these expressway projects has strategic significance; once operational, they will complete the inter-regional and intra-regional transportation network, contributing to the socio-economic development, tourism, and regional logistics of Lam Dong province. During an inspection of the progress of land clearance for expressway projects in the province, the Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Ho Van Muoi, emphasized: Investing in the construction of expressways is not just about building a road, but about opening up new development opportunities for Lam Dong in the future.

Optimizing aviation infrastructure

Along with focusing investment on developing the highway system, another important platform for promoting socio-economic development in Lam Dong province is being implemented: upgrading Lien Khuong International Airport. The Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) announced the commencement of the runway upgrade project, as part of the overall adjustment of the Lien Khuong Airport master plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. The project aims to upgrade Lien Khuong Airport into a more modern and standardized international airport, serving as a vital transportation gateway connecting the Central Highlands with domestic and international economic and tourism centers.

According to ACV Chairman Vu The Phiệt, at Lien Khuong Airport, after a period of continuous operation, infrastructure items such as runways, taxiways, drainage systems, and lighting have begun to deteriorate, affecting operational efficiency and flight safety. This necessitates a comprehensive upgrade to ensure safety, optimize capacity, and prepare for a new development look after being recognized as an international airport in June 2024. The Lien Khuong Airport upgrade project is expected to commence in early March 2026 and be completed in August 2026.

ACV announced it will invest over 966 billion VND to replace the entire runway surface; upgrade and renovate the drainage system, technical infrastructure, and equipment to ensure flight operations. Simultaneously, it will invest approximately 3,700 billion VND to build a new, modern, and well-equipped T2 passenger terminal along with other synchronized facilities to increase service capacity.

Lien Khuong is the first international airport in the Central Highlands region. According to the plan, by 2030, the airport will be upgraded to level 4E, capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, enhancing its competitiveness and prestige on the international aviation map. According to ACV representatives, from the current average of 2.5 million passengers per year, the airport's capacity is expected to increase to 5 million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo per year by 2030. By 2050, the airport could serve 7 million passengers and 30,000 tons of cargo, ready to accommodate an expected growth rate of 10% per year.

Mr. Vu The Phiệt stated: “Lien Khuong is one of the planned airports that will have comprehensive solutions implemented to upgrade its infrastructure and develop long-term development policies. This will facilitate travel for the people, promote international cooperation, develop tourism, create momentum for socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security.”

In September 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed in principle to allow Lam Dong province to terminate the BOT contract and adjust the investment plan for the Phan Thiet airport project, specifically the civil aviation component, in accordance with regulations. The investment in and completion of the aviation infrastructure and the highway system will create "runways" for Lam Dong to break through, becoming a bright spot attracting investment and a dynamic growth pole in the region during this new development phase.
