A giant monitor lizard listed in the Red Book was found in Dong Thap and was captured by local people and handed over to the Tam Nong-Tan Hong Forest Protection Department.

The monitor lizard is a rare and endangered animal of group IIB. People voluntarily handed it over to the Tam Nong - Tan Hong Inter-District Forest Protection Department ( Dong Thap province) for care and return it to the natural environment.

Representatives of Tam Nong - Tan Hong Inter-District Forest Protection Department (left cover) received a monitor lizard captured by Mr. Duong Van Kha, residing in Roc Muong Hamlet, Tan Cong Chi Commune (Tan Hong District, Dong Thap Province), and handed it over to Dong Thap Province authorities.

The above-mentioned monitor lizard was discovered by Mr. Duong Van Kha on Sa Rai canal crawling into the yard, so the family used a net to catch the monitor lizard.

Mr. Kha's family quickly reported to local authorities and functional agencies to hand over the animal, in order to protect this rare animal species.

It should be added that after knowing the story of Mr. Duong Van Kha catching a monitor lizard, many local people came to watch.

A rather long and nearly 8kg monitor lizard that strayed into the yard of Mr. Duong Van Kha, residing in Roc Muong hamlet, Tan Cong Chi commune (Tan Hong district, Dong Thap province) was handed over to the forest rangers. The monitor lizard is a rare wild animal listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book.

Among the curious people who came to see the monitor lizard, someone offered a high price to buy it, but Mr. Duong Van Kha refused to sell it, but handed it over to the authorities to take care of and release it to Tram Chim National Park Reserve in Dong Thap province.

Mr. Duong Van Kha's work is commendable because it has contributed to the conservation of wildlife, rare forest animals and enriched the biodiversity of Tram Chim National Park Reserve (Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province).
