Kien Giang chess player honored as young Vietnamese chess talent

(KGO) - Chess player Vu Hoang Gia Bao of Kien Giang was honored by the Vietnam Chess Federation as one of 30 young Vietnamese chess talents.

On June 17th, Vo Thanh Ninh, chess coach at the Kien Giang Sports Training and Competition Center, announced that at the National Youth Chess Championship currently taking place in Ninh Binh province, the Vietnam Chess Federation has honored 30 young Vietnamese chess talents. Kien Giang province has one player, Vu Hoang Gia Bao, who was recognized on this occasion.

Chess player Vu Hoang Gia Bao, born in 2006, is an athlete who rose through the ranks of the youth academy and has contributed significantly to the achievements of provincial and national chess teams in regional, national, and international tournaments. Currently, Gia Bao is a national master and a member of the Kien Giang provincial chess team.

In 2024, Gia Bao consecutively won medals at national youth chess championships, national championships, national team championships, etc. Gia Bao also won a double gold medal at the 22nd Southeast Asian Open Youth Chess Championship for various age groups in Laos in 2024.

In 2025, Gia Bao continued to make his mark with a gold medal at the National Team Chess Championship; and three gold medals at the National Club Chess Championship. Currently, Gia Bao is participating with the provincial team in the National Youth Chess Championship in Ninh Binh …

Recently, this young chess player was also awarded the title of Outstanding Young Person of 2024 by the Kien Giang Provincial Youth Union.
