The phone call took place a day after a South Korean military plane carrying 163 South Koreans, 51 Japanese, and 6 Singaporeans returned from Israel to Seoul Air Base in Seongnam, just south of the capital Seoul.
During the phone call, both sides agreed to cooperate closely for the safety of their citizens worldwide , with Foreign Minister Kamikawa pledging Japan's active cooperation in similar situations in the future.
On October 13, South Korea deployed a KC-330 refueling transport aircraft to evacuate its citizens from Israel following the surprise Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
This marks the first time the South Korean government has deployed military aircraft for this purpose and is the second flight to bring South Koreans home from Israel, following the return of 192 people on a Korean Air flight on October 11.
