The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) education organization has just announced the results of its university rankings across 55 fields in 5 subject groups, covering 1,747 higher education institutions with approximately 21,000 university programs.
In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 (QS WUR by Subject 2025), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has made a strong breakthrough with 2 subject groups and 12 subjects ranked (of which 10/12 subjects are in the top 500).
Of the 12 fields of study at this university ranked in the QS WUR by Subject 2025, 5 were ranked for the first time, 5 improved their ranking compared to the previous period, and 1 was re-ranked.
In the QS WUR by Subject 2025 rankings, this university also had two subject groups ranked again: Engineering and Technology (top 451-500) and Social Sciences and Management (top 501-500).
Among the fields ranked by QS, 4 fields/field groups are in the top 400, and 7 fields/field groups are ranked in the top 500.
The Accounting and Finance field of the University of Economics has been ranked for the first time in the top 301-375 globally. The citation score for articles in this field is 86.2. In addition, two other fields from the University of Economics also made it into this ranking: Economics and Econometrics (top 401), and Business and Management (top 450).
The field of Mathematics has improved its ranking and entered the top 301-350 in the world for the first time. This is also a field that has consistently maintained a high ranking and has steadily improved its position over the past six ranking cycles.
For the first time, the field of Law and Legal Sciences has been ranked in the top 351-400 globally. Hanoi National University is also the only higher education institution in Vietnam to be ranked in this field.
The Engineering and Technology sector returned to the 451-500 ranking worldwide and maintained stability with one new field ranking and two fields moving up in the rankings.
The field of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace and Manufacturing has improved its ranking to the top 401-450, with a score increase from 51.5 to 55.3 points. This is the sixth consecutive year this field has been ranked, from the 2019 ranking to the present.
The QS WUR by Subject 2025 ranking is based on five criteria with weights tailored to different fields, including: academic reputation, employability, average citation rate per publication, H-index measuring the productivity and impact of faculty publications, and international research networks.
QS ranking criteria emphasize the contribution and impact of a field of study's quality of education on society (through assessments by academics and employers), contributions to scientific research (through citation levels and H-index), and the ability to internationalize scientific research (through international research networks).
