According to Dan Viet reporters, on the morning of August 20, leaders of many localities in the Mekong Delta, experts, farmers and many universities saw off Professor Vo Tong Xuan at the funeral home in Can Tho City (No. 30A, Mau Than Street, An Nghiep Ward, Ninh Kieu District).

Professor Vo Tong Xuan passed away this morning (August 19) at Landmark 81 Hospital (HCMC). The funeral will be held at Can Tho City Funeral Home (No. 30A, Mau Than Street, An Nghiep Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City). After that, he will be brought back to his hometown for burial.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan was born on September 6, 1940 in Ba Chuc, Tri Ton, An Giang . In 1966, he graduated from university with a bachelor's degree in agricultural chemistry and was accepted as a research student at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

In 1971, with his love for science and desire to contribute to the country, he returned to Vietnam to work at Can Tho University. He then obtained his PhD in Japan in 1975.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan is the author of many valuable research works, textbooks, books, and reference materials serving agricultural production not only domestically but also internationally. Especially in the years 1980 - 1985, he introduced IR36 and MTL30 varieties which are most popular in the Western provinces. Not only famous domestically, his research works also bring many benefits to poor countries in Africa.

Professor Vo Tong Xuan has held many positions and is a Vietnamese scientist who has received many titles and major awards domestically and internationally.
