According to the Education Department's report, as of July 31, 2025, Lao Cai province has 32,714 allocated positions for educational institutions under the Department of Education and Training and the People's Committees of communes and wards. Of these, 29,645 are currently employed; there is a shortage of 3,069 positions, including 2,405 teachers and 664 support staff.
In order to supplement the workforce with professional qualifications and expertise to meet the requirements of teaching and operating the public education system, on October 21, 2025, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province issued a plan on the recruitment of education staff in 2025. Accordingly, the total number of positions to be recruited is 1,958, mainly concentrated in preschools, primary schools, and junior high schools in the province.
The document specifies the cases ineligible for application, including individuals who have lost or have limited civil capacity; individuals currently under criminal investigation, serving a sentence, or subject to a court decision; and individuals subject to administrative measures such as placement in a treatment facility, educational institution, or reformatory.
Recruitment is conducted through either an examination or a selection process, divided into two rounds. Round 1: a general knowledge test in the form of a computer-based multiple-choice exam (for examinations) or a eligibility assessment (for selections). Round 2: a professional skills test relevant to the job position.
Following the merger, the Department of Education and Training of Lao Cai province was established by consolidating the two former departments of education and training. In the context of this transition, the local education sector has strived to stabilize its organizational structure and maintain the effective operation of 1,045 educational institutions, with over 15,300 classes and nearly 470,000 students enrolled throughout the province.
