An epic poem of unwavering will and aspiration for progress.

Looking back at the 58-year history of construction and development, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Rector of Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 (HPU2), recalls the difficult early days and the pioneering steps of previous generations.

Established on August 14, 1967, by Decision No. 128/CP of the Government Council, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 was founded with the urgent mission of training teachers of basic science subjects for secondary and high schools.

During those years, the teachers and students of the school lived and worked in extremely difficult conditions. Classrooms were trenches, and lecture halls were shelters hidden by the forest canopy protecting the soldiers. Teachers simultaneously taught, fought with weapons, and served on the front lines. The spirit of "Teaching well - Learning well" amidst the flames of war forged the qualities of "people's teachers" in the school's staff and lecturers from its very beginnings.

After the reunification of the country, implementing the strategic policy of the Party and State on redistributing intellectual resources and developing the economy and culture of the northern midland region, in the autumn of 1975, the Minister of Education issued Decision No. 872 to relocate the school's headquarters to Xuan Hoa, Vinh Phu (now Xuan Hoa ward, Phu Tho province).

This historic decision marked a turning point, shaping the "soul" and unique identity of the school. From the capital city of Hanoi, the teachers and students of the school undertook a major relocation to this still largely undeveloped midland region.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy stated: "Fifty years ago, Xuan Hoa was a vast, hilly area, with dusty, rocky terrain on sunny days and muddy, slippery surfaces on rainy days. The first ten years (1975-1985) in Xuan Hoa were the most difficult but also the most heroic period."

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Rector of Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, delivered a speech.

“I respectfully bow my head in gratitude to the ‘pioneers.’ These are the teachers who, during the day, hold chalk on the podium, but during their breaks, they take up hoes and shovels to dig hills, level the ground, make bricks, and build classrooms. They used their intellectual hands to dig wells to find fresh water sources and plant trees to green the barren hills. The sweat of these teachers has soaked into every inch of soil here, blending with the rocks and soil of Xuan Hoa to nurture future talents,” Principal Nguyen Quang Huy shared.

Entering the period of reform (1986-1995), the country transformed but also faced countless challenges. This was also a period of "trial by fire" for the existence of the University, in the context of restructuring and replanning the network of universities, the University faced the risk of dissolution.

But it was during that historic moment that the spirit of unity and the collective wisdom of the school's leadership, staff, and faculty shone brightly. With the motto "We must save ourselves," the school proactively shifted its strategy: from single-discipline training to multi-disciplinary, multi-field training; maintaining pedagogical quality while expanding into professions needed by society.

That unwavering determination and extraordinary effort helped Hanoi Teacher Training College 2 weather the storms, maintain stability, and create momentum for breakthrough development in the subsequent period.

From 1995 to the present, especially during the period of implementing Resolution 29-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive educational reform, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has made significant progress, becoming one of the leading prestigious educational and scientific centers in the country.

A proud achievement

Looking back on 50 years of dedication to Xuan Hoa, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy emphasized the outstanding achievements of the school in three main areas:

Firstly, the mission is to create a high-quality workforce – the "main engine" of education. Over the past half-century, the university has persistently fulfilled its mission of "nurturing talent," training over 60,000 students at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels; providing the education sector with over 50,000 high-quality teachers to teach in secondary schools across 34 provinces and cities. In addition, the university has provided advanced training for over 100,000 education administrators and teachers, contributing to the standardization of the national teaching staff.

What we are most proud of is the quality of our graduates. In recent years, the employment rate for students one year after graduation has reached an impressive figure of over 90%. This is the most convincing evidence of the school's reputation for quality education in the eyes of society.

Former students of the School have now spread far and wide. They are leading officials in central agencies and departments; they are excellent principals and teachers in many provinces and cities... Many have become Outstanding Teachers and People's Teachers, carrying within them the pride of being students of Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, spreading knowledge and character to generations of students.

With those contributions, according to Decision No. 452/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, the School became one of the 14 key teacher training institutions in the country.

Secondly, breakthroughs in scientific research and international integration. Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 is not only a place for imparting knowledge but also one of the cradles of scientific research. In the last 10 years alone, the university's scientists have published thousands of articles, including more than 500 articles in the prestigious ISI/Scopus databases.

The current faculty of the University is its most valuable resource, with over 60% holding doctoral degrees – a high percentage in the Vietnamese higher education system. The faculty members have actively participated in compiling new textbooks, participating in the ETEP Program, training core teachers, and directly contributing to the implementation of the 2018 General Education Curriculum reform.

Regarding integration, the university has proactively established cooperative relationships with many international universities and research institutes. Currently, the university offers 23 undergraduate programs, 18 master's programs, and 6 doctoral programs, including international joint programs and programs taught in English, making English the second language in the school and opening up broad opportunities for integration for students.

Thirdly, the unwavering connection with Xuan Hoa. The development of Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 is inseparable from the development of the locality. For the past 50 years, the University has played a pivotal role in driving the transformation of Xuan Hoa ward. From a disadvantaged area, Xuan Hoa today has become a green, modern, and civilized university town.

The presence of tens of thousands of students, staff, and lecturers has created new vitality, boosting the economic, cultural, and service development of the locality. In addition, the government and people of Xuan Hoa have always supported and provided the best conditions for the teachers and students to work and study with peace of mind. This is an exemplary, organic cooperative relationship between the school and the local community.

With its tremendous and comprehensive achievements, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 is honored to be awarded the Third-Class Labor Medal for the second time. This is not only a recognition from the Party and the State, but also the culmination of the intellect, sweat, and even tears of countless generations of teachers and students.

Development strategy with 3 breakthrough pillars

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy stated: The General Secretary's call to action at the recent opening ceremony of the new school year: "Education and training must maintain its position as a top national priority, becoming a key driving force for national development" resonated like a command from the heart.

Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development; Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on the development of science and technology... are opening up new opportunities and also posing extremely challenging new tasks for us.

Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has defined its development strategy with three breakthrough pillars:

Pillar 1: To become the "Innovation and Digital Transformation Center" of the North Central region. Fulfilling a "dual mission" in the digital age, the university is determined to build a model of a research and innovation university. It will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) as a production tool and essential infrastructure, training teachers who are not only highly skilled in their fields but also proficient in technology, capable of leading students in the AI era. Simultaneously, it strives to become the core of the startup ecosystem, nurturing scientific and technological ideas for the entire region.

Pillar 2: Affirming its position as the leading institution in pedagogy and training high-quality human resources. The school is steadfast in its goal of developing into a key national teacher training institution; committed to continuing to be the "main engine" providing elite educational human resources for the entire Red River Delta and the Northern Midlands and Mountains; and continuing to expand the training of management and professional staff according to modern models, contributing to building a streamlined and effective state apparatus.

Pillar 3: Expanding the space for multidisciplinary development, creating cultural and social values. Adhering to the planning of the higher education network, the university will expand connections and cooperation to form a multidisciplinary, multi-field university model. Building on its strengths in pedagogy, the university will develop into a leading center for cultural, tourism, and foreign language research. The goal is not only to teach, but also to directly contribute to raising the intellectual level of the population, changing entrepreneurial mindsets, and developing sustainable livelihoods for residents of the Northern Midlands provinces. Non-pedagogical fields will provide the labor market with highly skilled engineers and professionals with strong adaptability to the continuous shifts in global supply chains.

A cultural performance to welcome the guests.

To achieve this, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Huy hopes that the staff, lecturers, and employees will promote intellectual spirit and dedication; deeply understand that teachers are the decisive driving force in the quality of education; promote scientific research, pioneer innovation, and implement the motto "teachers are true teachers" in all aspects of ethics and knowledge.

Students and learners should foster an open-minded spirit and respect for diversity; proactively acquire knowledge, skills, and an open mindset; cultivate entrepreneurial aspirations and a lifelong learning spirit; and strive to become global citizens, for their own future and for the survival of the nation.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy also expressed his hope that partners and the community would continue to accompany and support the school in creating an innovation ecosystem, serving social progress; and developing and enhancing the linkage between the three parties: the State - the School - and the Employers.

Associate Professor Tran Van Nghi, lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, representing the staff and employees, delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Happy and proud to continue the 58-year history.

Speaking on behalf of the faculty and staff at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Van Nghi, a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, expressed gratitude for the persistent, silent, yet immense contributions of previous generations who have built a solid foundation and fostered the cultural values that define HPU2.

Proud to inherit that fine tradition, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Van Nghi believes that it is a tradition of overcoming difficulties, of creativity in teaching and scientific research, of dedication to the profession and love for students. These values are not only historical but remain vibrant in every lecture hall, every laboratory, every lesson, and every lesson plan of each teacher today.

"We are proud of the school's current team of administrators, lecturers, specialists, and employees – people who are constantly striving to improve, overcome their own limitations, the challenges of the times, and the increasingly high demands of educational and training reform."

With an educational philosophy of "Humanism - Enlightenment - Integration," teachers not only impart knowledge but also inspire learning, nurture character, and encourage creativity and self-reliance in students. The school's core values of "Prestige - Intellect - Dedication" are being realized day by day through the efforts of each teacher and staff member in their various positions.

"We are very proud of the current generation of students, trainees, and researchers at the University. With their youth, dynamism, creativity, thirst for knowledge, and spirit of integration, they are living proof of the vitality and prestige of the university. We always believe and hope that this generation will continue to write new, glorious chapters in the 58-year tradition of development of our beloved institution," Associate Professor Tran Van Nghi expressed.

In fulfilling his responsibilities, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Van Nghi affirmed that the faculty and staff are committed to continuously striving, innovating their thinking and teaching methods, enhancing their research capabilities, actively applying technology, and strengthening domestic and international cooperation to accompany the university on its current and future development journey.

Ta Gia Linh, a student from the 48th cohort of the English Department, spoke on behalf of nearly 8,000 students at the ceremony.
dsc08476.jpg
Student representatives presented flowers to express their gratitude to the teachers and the school.

Speaking on behalf of nearly 8,000 students at the ceremony, Ta Gia Linh (Class 48, Faculty of English) emotionally shared: "Four years of studying at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has been an incredibly memorable time. The students are proud not only of the university's long-standing tradition and achievements, but also of the sincere affection and dedication that the faculty have shown to the students."

In the classroom, besides imparting specialized knowledge, professors enthusiastically share practical experiences and valuable lessons from their own professional journeys. As a result, students not only absorb the lectures more deeply but also understand what skills and knowledge they need to effectively apply to their future careers.

Beyond classroom hours, teachers are like second parents to students, always ready to listen, share, and guide them in everything from academics and career paths to life's anxieties. Each conversation with a teacher leaves students with a feeling of respect, sincerity, and positive encouragement, helping them gain confidence on their journey ahead.

The quiet but persistent support of their teachers has become a foundation for students to grow, becoming strong in knowledge and character – something they will always cherish and be grateful for.

“Looking back on 58 years of construction and development, we deeply appreciate the persistent and unwavering journey of many generations of teachers. From the early days of many shortcomings, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has now become a spacious and modern training institution, a reliable address for the pedagogical sector nationwide. However, more than the physical facilities or the achievements, the strength and prestige of the university are built by its people – the teachers who have silently dedicated themselves, persistently keeping the flame of the profession in their hearts and passing that flame on to countless generations of students,” student Ta Gia Linh expressed.

Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department (Ministry of Education and Training), delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Continuing to affirm its position as a key teacher training institution in the new context.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training at the ceremony, Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department, stated: The Ministry of Education and Training acknowledges and highly appreciates the persistent efforts, courage, creativity, and outstanding achievements that Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has attained in recent years.

To further uphold the school's fine traditions, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that the school focus on effectively implementing the following basic tasks:

Firstly, as a teacher training university, the institution needs to thoroughly understand and effectively implement the Party's viewpoint: "Education and training have the mission of raising the intellectual level of the people, developing human resources, nurturing talents, and making an important contribution to the development of the country, building Vietnamese culture and people."

The university's mission, vision, and overall activities are oriented towards becoming a multidisciplinary, innovative university, but first and foremost, it must focus its resources on the mission of training teachers, scientists, and educational administrators with outstanding qualities and abilities, enthusiasm, responsibility, high adaptability, and a spirit of innovation.

Graduates from Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 must be outstanding practitioners in terms of professional competence, possess professional prestige, and have a positive influence on the educational community and society.

Secondly, as a key teacher training university, the institution needs to continue innovating university governance, strongly implementing digital transformation, innovating management thinking, and continuing to streamline its organizational structure; focusing on innovating curricula, content, teaching methods, and assessment methods; expanding the scale and improving the quality of student recruitment; fulfilling its social commitments, and updating its knowledge with advanced and modern approaches.

The school also needs to continue focusing on moral education, lifestyle, aesthetics, and health, and nurturing soft skills for students to meet the requirements of innovation and the diverse demands for human resources; strengthening international exchange and integration in depth; and effectively implementing the three core goals and values: Humanism - Enlightenment - Integration.

Thirdly, in the current period of numerous opportunities and challenges, the school needs to focus intensely and leverage resources to effectively implement the Politburo's Resolutions, the Government's Action Program, and the Ministry of Education and Training's Resolutions on education, especially Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in educational development, and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
