The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Office has just issued a notice summarizing the conclusions of the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai at a working session on planning and investment in transportation infrastructure connecting the two localities.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province agreed to assign the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City to take the lead and coordinate with the Department of Construction of Dong Nai Province and other relevant units to establish a working group to implement the transportation connectivity project.
The task force is headed by the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, with the Director of the Dong Nai Department of Construction as deputy head, and its members are leaders from the departments and agencies of both localities.
The working group will develop regulations, functions, and operational plans, prioritizing highly feasible projects, allocating a list of key projects for the 2026-2030 period, and ensuring consistency with the directives of the leaders of both sides.
The leaders of the two localities also basically agreed on the necessity of investing in the construction of bridges to replace the Cat Lai and Phu My 2 ferries, and the Dong Nai 2 bridge.
Of these, the Cat Lai ferry replacement bridge project and the Dong Nai 2 bridge project are managed by the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, while the Phu My 2 bridge project is implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
The Departments of Construction in both localities are requested to coordinate with relevant agencies to implement the next steps.
Regarding the construction of a railway line connecting Tan Son Nhat Airport with Long Thanh Airport, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province have assigned the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City to urgently take the lead and coordinate with relevant departments and units to implement the project in accordance with the Prime Minister 's directives; and to advise and propose solutions to the city.
Regarding the development of public passenger transport, the Departments of Construction of the two localities will continue to implement the directives of the local leaders; at the same time, they will coordinate and agree to advise and propose to the People's Committees of the two localities for consideration and decision in accordance with regulations.
Scale of transportation projects connecting the two localities
The Phu My 2 bridge project, with its starting point on Nguyen Huu Tho Street (Ho Chi Minh City) and its end point connecting to Road 25C (Dong Nai province), has a total investment of approximately 21,484 billion VND.
The Cat Lai Bridge has a total investment of 19,500 billion VND, while the Dong Nai 2 Bridge has a preliminary total investment of approximately 10,945 billion VND. All three bridges are designed with 8 lanes.
Regarding the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway project (US$3.5 billion), the Ministry of Construction recently proposed to the Prime Minister that Ho Chi Minh City be the managing agency to invest in the integrated connection between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport.
