The Organizing Committee hopes that this festival will be a completely new tourism product, initiated by Quang Tri alone, with the community joining hands to create value. Many activities to highlight the Festival for Peace will be held throughout this July.
Cycling for Peace is the opening activity for the series of events of the Festival for Peace in Quang Tri. On June 29, right in the middle of the historic Hien Luong Bridge, when doves and balloons were launched into the sky, 600 athletes from all over the country gathered in Quang Tri to participate in the opening parade and cycling for peace. The cycling group marched from the special national monument on both banks of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai River to the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery and ended at Fidel Park, Dong Ha City. At the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, the members of the group burned incense to pay tribute to heroic martyrs, gave gifts to families with revolutionary contributions, and helped students in difficult circumstances. At Fidel Park, the members of the group signed and wrote messages on the flag symbolizing the festival. This flag is 54 square meters wide, representing the 54 ethnic groups of Vietnam. The main motifs and images on it are doves holding rice ears, expressing the desire for peace, prosperity and happiness.
This flag will be sent to the National Commission for UNESCO as a message from peace lovers. Each person present at the Cycling Day for Peace is a messenger for peace. Ms. Le Thi Sen, from Ho Chi Minh City, was moved when participating in this special event.
“It was very emotional to hold the ceremony at Hien Luong Bridge, Parallel 17 and cycle across the historic bridge and almost everyone was very emotional. And we came here to visit Truong Son Martyrs Cemetery with over 10,000 martyrs who have been buried here, we were very emotional” - Ms. Sen said.
