On February 2, 2024, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the Launching Ceremony of the ASEAN-China Year of People-to-People Exchange 2024 in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, China. Attending the launching ceremony were Party Central Committee member, Chinese State Councilor Kham Di Cam, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, and representatives of the governments, ministries, and local sectors of ASEAN countries and China.
The launching ceremony is one of the key activities to implement the decision of the 26th ASEAN-China Summit (Jakarta, September 2023) to promote people-to-people exchanges, deepen cultural exchanges and strengthen friendship between ASEAN countries and China.
In her opening speech at the ceremony, Ms. Kham Di Cam affirmed that the ASEAN-China friendship is a model of the most successful neighborly relations in the Asia- Pacific region. Ms. Kham Di Cam expressed her hope that many cooperation programs on youth, education, culture, tourism, media, science and technology, etc. will be promoted to contribute to consolidating and deepening the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and bringing practical benefits to more than 2 billion people of both sides. On the ASEAN side, in his role as ASEAN Chair 2024, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune spoke highly of the significance of the ASEAN-China Cooperation Year on People-to-People Exchange and expressed ASEAN's commitment to enhancing cooperation, exchanges and connecting people of both sides, thereby promoting economic and trade cooperation opportunities between ASEAN countries and China, thereby contributing to strong recovery efforts after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet affirmed that ASEAN and Vietnam always attach importance to and appreciate people-to-people exchange activities between ASEAN and China. The Deputy Minister believes that the close friendship, built on the foundation of geographical proximity and cultural similarities between the people of ASEAN and China, is an indispensable catalyst for this partnership. The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam, as an active member of ASEAN, will continuously promote comprehensive exchange activities in various areas of cooperation, thereby creating new momentum for expanding and deepening the relationship, contributing to the practical implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that the two sides have recently established.
Within the framework of this Launch Ceremony, many cultural exchange and promotion activities, art performances, culinary festivals, etc. were held to introduce and promote the unique cultural values of ASEAN countries and China to the public./.
