The chances of winning an early gold medal in the track and field event are not very high because Nguyen Thi Oanh, a key figure in the athletics team, will not participate in the women's 1,500m race in order to focus all her efforts on her three strongest events: the 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, and 10,000m.
Among the male athletes, expectations are placed on Luong Duc Phuoc – who won two silver medals in the 800m and 1,500m at the 32nd SEA Games and is maintaining consistent form.
While athletics is cautiously finding its rhythm, swimming enters its second day of competition with a series of speed events, promising a new surge of excitement. From the men's and women's 50m backstroke to the men's 500m freestyle, women's 200m freestyle, men's 100m breaststroke, and women's 200m individual medley, Vietnamese athletes are all ready.
The highlight of the evening was the men's 4x200m freestyle relay – a "trademark" of Vietnamese swimming and also a measure of the overall strength of the entire swimming nation.
With a strong and well-balanced team, the Vietnamese men's swimming team promises to create fierce competition with Singapore in the relay events. This is also likely to be the first event in which Huy Hoang wins a medal at this year's SEA Games.
The exhilarating atmosphere on the track continued after Tran Hung Nguyen's opening gold medal win on December 10th, when he demonstrated his superior class in the 200m individual medley.

Match preview: Vietnam U22 vs Malaysia U22, 4:00 PM, December 11th: A strong chance of advancing to the semi-finals.
Today, the spotlight will be on swimmer Pham Thanh Bao – who has won a total of 4 gold medals in breaststroke events in the last two SEA Games. In the 100m breaststroke, Thanh Bao is expected to extend the winning streak for Vietnamese swimming.
Besides strong water sports, canoeing, gymnastics, and martial arts continue to be potential "gold mines" for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation on this competition day.
On December 10th, Vietnamese sports had a strenuous day of competition, winning 4 gold medals: Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong (women's 500m double canoeing), the taekwondo team (mixed team), Tran Hung Nguyen (men's 200m individual medley swimming), and Nguyen Van Dung (petanque).
Along with that, they won 4 silver medals and 16 bronze medals. Although the results weren't as outstanding as expected, this is still a positive achievement, especially considering that the first day of competition always requires adaptation and mental stability.
Today, 53 sets of medals will be awarded at the 33rd SEA Games. The Vietnamese sports delegation has the opportunity to improve its ranking and increase its medal count in the overall standings, as a series of strong events enter the competition.
The competitive atmosphere is heating up by the hour, and December 11th promises to be another challenging journey – while also opening up new hopes for the Vietnamese team in Bangkok.
