SEA Games 33: Vietnamese Canoeing Team Wins First Gold Medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation

On the afternoon of December 10th, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation received great news at the 33rd SEA Games when rowers Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong excellently won the first gold medal in the women's 500m double canoe event.

The two Vietnamese girls delivered an explosive performance, defeating their Thai opponents by a significant margin, thereby bringing home Vietnam's first gold medal in Thailand.

Earlier, Canoeing also brought good news when Vo Duy Thanh and Do Thi Thanh Thao won a silver medal in the 500m mixed double kayak event, finishing only behind Singapore. This was a valuable silver medal, creating momentum before Huong and her team completed a spectacular breakthrough to win the gold medal.

Speaking after winning Vietnam's first gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, the pair Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong said: "We are currently very happy with this achievement. We wish the Vietnamese sports delegation continued success in the upcoming competitions."

According to Vietnam's Canoeing team coach, Luu Van Hoan, it was a very successful day of competition, with the Vietnamese team winning one gold medal, one silver medal, and one bronze medal. He described the athletes' performance as "impressive and excellent," and expressed his pride that canoeing was the first team to win a gold medal for Vietnam at this year's Games. Coach Luu Van Hoan said that the duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong lived up to expectations from the qualifying round, leading and being considered the strongest contenders in the women's 500m double canoeing event. Their success is the result of serious preparation and great effort in training. "This victory is very important for the whole team, creating more motivation for us to continue to perform better in the coming days," Coach Hoan shared.

Immediately after winning the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, team leader Nguyen Hong Minh was present at the competition venue to present a "on-the-spot" reward of 10 million VND to the two athletes Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong.
