As planned, the 2025 United Nations Vesak celebration will take place from May 6 to 8 at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, Ho Chi Minh City.

Venerable Thich Duc Thien said that the Buddha's relics invited from India to Vietnam are national treasures of India. Therefore, to welcome the relics this time, the Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , sent a diplomatic note to India on December 31, 2024, requesting permission for the Church to bring the relics to be enshrined at Vesak.

"The Indian government has also had diplomatic policies for the reception of Buddha's relics. The first time Buddha's relics were brought to Mongolia in 2022, in 2024 they were brought to Thailand and this is the third time they were brought to Vietnam," said Venerable Thich Duc Thien.

According to Venerable Thich Duc Thien, after negotiations between the two countries' foreign ministries, the Indian side agreed. An advance delegation from the Indian side, including representatives from the Ministry of Culture, historical archaeologists, and museum representatives, has been working in Vietnam since April 18 to survey the location and work on the relics.

"This morning we also worked with the Hanoi People's Committee on the conditions for the enshrinement. The Indian government is very concerned about conditions such as humidity, temperature as well as security to process and ensure the safety of the Buddha's relics," said Venerable Thich Duc Thien.

Information about the itinerary of the Buddha's relics from India was also announced on the afternoon of April 22. "The Indian Buddha's relics will travel via diplomatic channels - on the Indian Government's military aircraft," said Venerable Thich Duc Thien, adding that the delegation will escort them to Tan Son Nhat Airport on May 2, then take them to Thanh Tam Pagoda.

The relics will stay at Thanh Tam Pagoda - Vietnam Buddhist Academy (HCMC) from May 2 to 8.

Then, Buddha relics from India will arrive at Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh from May 9 to 12.

On the morning of May 13, the Buddha's relics left Ba Den Mountain, took a special plane to Hanoi, and were carried from Noi Bai Airport to the streets of Hanoi and around Hoan Kiem Lake.

Then, Buddha's relics from India were brought to Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi from May 14 to 16 for people to worship.

Finally, the relics will go to Tam Chuc Pagoda, Ha Nam (where Vesak 2019 will be held) from May 17 to 21 and then return to India.

Along with the opportunity to worship Buddha's relics from India, the public also has the opportunity to worship the heart relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc. The heart relics will be brought from the State Bank to the palace on May 3, then placed at the Vietnam National Pagoda for people and international friends to worship from May 3-14, then carried to the great stupa of the three jewels.

The transfer of Buddha relics from India to Vietnam also shows the position of Vietnamese Buddhism in the international Buddhist community. According to Venerable Thich Duc Thien, "the international Buddhist community highly values the United Nations Vesak celebration held in Ho Chi Minh City."
