A tornado swept through a school in Ha Tinh, completely tearing off the roof of a two-story building, with estimated damages of around 300 million VND.

On the morning of July 20th, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Vo Quoc Bao - principal of Hai Thuong Lan Ong Secondary School (Son Giang commune, Ha Tinh province ) - said that a tornado that swept through the school on the evening of July 19th caused significant damage to its facilities.

Around 7 PM on July 19th, Son Giang commune experienced heavy rain and strong winds. Suddenly, a tornado swept through Hai Thuong Lan Ong Secondary School, completely tearing off the roof of the two-story building with eight classrooms.

In addition, the strong storm also damaged the roof tiles of another row of buildings and knocked down many trees on the school grounds.

"At the time of the tornado, there was a security guard in the school, and luckily, he was safe. This morning, the school mobilized teachers and parents to help mitigate the damage caused by the storm, and also moved all teaching equipment to a safe place to prevent damage," said Mr. Bao.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, chairman of the Son Giang commune People's Committee, said the tornado lasted for about 30 minutes, causing significant damage to the facilities at Hai Thuong Lan Ong Secondary School, with initial estimates of around 300 million VND.

The tornado also knocked down many trees in the area. Local authorities are currently mobilizing forces to assist Hai Thuong Lan Ong Secondary School in repairing the damage, so that the facilities can be restored in time for the new school year.

Also on the evening of July 19th, a storm with strong winds and rain ripped off the roofs of four houses in Huong Xuan commune (Ha Tinh province). Local authorities mobilized forces and coordinated with organizations and residents to help people overcome the consequences.
