The 2025 Nobel Prize award ceremony will be held with great solemnity as the Nobel Peace Prize winner arrives in Norway.

On December 10th, the 2025 Nobel Prize awards ceremony in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and the Alfred Nobel Prize in Economics from the Swedish Central Bank was held in Stockholm, Sweden.

According to Town & Country magazine, the awards ceremony at Stockholm City Hall was attended by more than 1,000 guests, including senior members of the Swedish Royal Family and many political figures. The Nobel Peace Prize, however, was awarded in Oslo (Norway).

At the ceremony, the Nobel laureates received their Nobel medals, certificates, and confirmation of the prize money from King Carl XVI Gustaf. This year, the prize money for each Nobel laureate was 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1.21 million).

This year's Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to three American quantum physicists: John Clarke (University of California, Berkeley), Michel H. Devoret (Yale University), and John M. Martinis (University of California, Santa Barbara) for "the discovery of the macroscopic quantum tunneling effect and the quantization of energy in electrical circuits."

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to scientists Susumu Kitagawa (University of Tokyo, Japan), Richard Robson (University of Melbourne, Australia), and Omar M. Yaghi (University of California, Berkeley, USA) for their contributions to metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to three scientists, Mary E. Brunkow (USA), Fred Ramsdell (USA), and Shimon Sakaguchi (Japan), in recognition of their groundbreaking contributions to the field of immunology, specifically the mechanism of peripheral immune tolerance.

The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai. Meanwhile, the Alfred Nobel Prize in Economics, awarded by the Swedish Central Bank, was given to scientists Joel Mokyr (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA), Philippe Aghion (London School of Economics and Political Science, UK), and Peter Howitt (Brown University, Providence, RI, USA).

Following the awards ceremony, members of the Swedish Royal Family and the award winners attended a reception in the Green Hall of Stockholm City Hall.

The first toast was raised by Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin (Chairman of the Nobel Foundation) to honor the King, and the second toast – in memory of Alfred Nobel – was made by King Carl Gustaf himself.

The Nobel Prize ceremony is held annually on December 10th – the anniversary of the death of the Swedish chemist and inventor Alfred Nobel. Prior to this, the Nobel Committee announces the winners starting in October.

According to Reuters, on December 11th, a few hours after the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, the recipient of the award, arrived in Oslo, Norway, despite a decade-long travel ban imposed by President Nicolas Maduro's government.

The head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee confirmed that Ms. Machado had arrived. On October 10th, the committee announced her selection for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her long-standing efforts in promoting democracy, defending human rights values, and demonstrating unwavering leadership amidst the country's many challenges.

Dubbed the "Iron Lady of Venezuela," Machado is considered one of the most prominent figures in the Venezuelan opposition. She has avoided public appearances for months.

When the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony was held on December 10th, her daughter accepted the award on her behalf because she was unable to attend.
