Why can't the 2025 Kite Awards Ceremony be held yet?

Information from the Vietnam Cinema Association sent to members said: Due to difficulties in mobilizing support resources for the organization, the 2025 Kite Awards Ceremony will depend on the actual conditions and capabilities of the Association.

According to the cooperation agreement between Khanh Hoa province (old) and the Vietnam Cinema Association, the Kite Awards Ceremony will be held every September in this locality to promote cultural and tourism destinations. The first time the Kite Awards took place in Khanh Hoa was in 2022 after a period of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 2025 also marks the fourth consecutive year that Khanh Hoa hosted the Kite. The previous editions in Nha Trang created a good effect in promoting the brand: "Khanh Hoa - the destination of art and tourism".

Last June, Khanh Hoa province announced that the 2025 Kite Award Ceremony is expected to continue in December 2025. However, up to this point, the time for the Award Ceremony has not been officially announced because there are many factors that have not been agreed upon, especially the budget issue and new regulations related to award payments from the State budget.

One of the biggest problems preventing the award ceremony from being "finalized" right now is the inability to approve the award spending quota.

According to the Vietnam Cinema Association, currently, the competent financial authority has not yet allowed the payment of bonus money from the State budget for award categories of the Central Literature and Arts Associations in 2025, including the Kite Award.

This means that if not removed, works and artists winning the Kite Award will only receive a trophy and certificate without any accompanying bonus (as usual).

This is embarrassing for the Organizing Committee, because the award is not only an honor but also a material and spiritual motivation for artists - those who are tirelessly contributing to the development of the country's cinema and television arts.

The organizing committee affirmed: Although the official schedule has not been announced yet, the 2025 Kite Awards has not been delayed in its preparations. All plans are being carefully calculated to ensure the award's professional quality.

Vietnamese cinema is at a time when it needs more motivation to continue to create strong momentum after the marks that Vietnamese films have made in 2025 with historic "records": The film " Red Rain " reached more than 700 billion VND and " Torture in the Sky " is also about to reach the 250 billion mark. The Kite is always considered by the profession as a "spiritual launching pad" and a measure of the value of excellent works each year.

The fact that the Award Ceremony has not been able to announce the official time has also made artists in the profession worried. Because they expect the Kite Awards to not only be trophies on stage but also to be a recognition of creative values; a spirit to promote artistic development; a bridge between works and the public.

Artists who have participated in previous Kite Awards also expressed their hope that this year's awards will continue to be held. Actress Le Phuong said: "When your name is announced at Kite Awards, it is always a proud moment for those in the profession. I hope the awards will continue to motivate creativity for film and television artists."

The Kite Award was first held in 2002. The aim of the award is to summarize cinematographic creation activities in order to promptly encourage artistic creativity; to honor national identity in artistic expression; to spread works rich in humanistic values ​​and positive effects on society.

Accordingly, the award has a rich structure, including 7 types of awarded works: Films, television films, short films, animations, documentaries, scientific films and research works - theory - criticism of cinema - television. Individual awards for key creative components: Golden Kite, Silver Kite and certificates of merit for the best works.

Hopefully, after the financial problems are resolved, the 2025 Kite Awards will return to live up to the expectations of the public and professionals.
