On October 27, the Department of Performing Arts and the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) met to discuss the increasing number of songs with vulgar and uncultured language circulating on the internet. The leaders of the two units agreed on the need to strongly rectify and restore discipline in performing arts activities.
People's Artist Nguyen Xuan Bac, Director of the Department of Performing Arts, emphasized: "There are artists performing songs outside the licensed list, not complying with the regulations of the competent authority. The Department has requested relevant units to review and report specifically for strict handling." Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bac said that a resolute attitude from the management agency is necessary to raise political awareness, professional ethics and social responsibility of artists.
Director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information Le Quang Tu Do affirmed that it is necessary to strictly rectify and restore order in cyberspace, especially cross-border platforms, to limit negative impacts on the community, especially the youth. According to Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, through monitoring, some songs have offensive lyrics, while the artist management unit has shown signs of defense and explanation without goodwill.
Previously, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee had issued an official dispatch requesting to rectify deviant musical activities, pointing out that many songs by young singers such as Jack J-97, Phao, Gducky, Andree, HieuThuHai... used sloppy, offensive language, promoting a loose, gangster lifestyle. Mr. Le Quang Tu Do said that the fact that Ho Chi Minh City "named" specific cases of violations showed a strong will and determination to restore order in the music field.
People's Artist Xuan Bac also affirmed that art is life, theater is life, but that life must be selected to become art. A work of art must fulfill aesthetic and educational functions, conveying positive human values. Offensive expressions in lyrics, costumes, language, and going against traditional customs... must be strictly handled. In the coming time, the Department of Performing Arts will continue to closely coordinate with relevant agencies to both create a legal corridor to encourage creativity and develop the cultural industry and entertainment industry, while ensuring management so that art develops in the right direction and complies with regulations.
