(Dan Tri Newspaper) - This Chinese model achieved the highest Euro NCAP safety rating among the electric vehicles tested, but still lost to German cars if internal combustion engine vehicles are included.

Chinese automakers have quietly risen in popularity over the years, most notably in the electric vehicle sector. Over the past decade, Chinese cars have improved significantly in terms of quality, design, performance, and safety. All of this has led to Chinese vehicles being included in Euro NCAP's list of safest cars in their segment in 2024.

Compact SUVs are dominating the European market, so it's no surprise that this segment accounts for 20 of the 44 models tested by Euro NCAP in 2024. Among them, Geely's Zeekr X not only achieved higher safety scores than vehicles from established European brands, but also won the title of safest electric car of the year.

Specifically, the Zeekr X boasts higher safety ratings than competitors such as the Deepal S07, Porsche Macan EV, Cupra Tavascan, MG HS, Toyota C-HR, Volvo EX30, and Xpeng G6.

Despite the strong rise of Chinese electric vehicles, the overall safest car (including internal combustion engine vehicles) is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The latest version of this German mid-size sedan achieved the highest safety rating of the year, performing excellently in all four Euro NCAP categories.

These four categories include: protection for adults in the vehicle, protection for children in the vehicle, protection for pedestrians, and safety assistance features.

Here are the safety scores for the safest car models:

In the large SUV segment, the Mazda CX-80 narrowly beat the Audi Q6 e-tron to claim the top spot. Meanwhile, in the large family car segment, the Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb tied for the lead. This is quite understandable, as these two models share the same chassis platform.

Many people will undoubtedly wonder why some segments don't have any models ranked as the best in terms of safety according to Euro NCAP criteria. In some cases, the reason is that there aren't enough vehicles in that segment. Another reason is that some vehicles receive "failure points," such as potentially posing a danger in certain areas marked in red on the dummy.

According to Euro NCAP's explanation, if there is a hazard in the red-marked area on the dummy, the car will only receive a maximum of 4 stars.

Notably, the Chinese Maxus eTerron 9 is the first all-electric pickup truck to be tested for safety by Euro NCAP. Although not ranked as the best in its segment, its safety was highly rated by Euro NCAP.
