Launching a peak period of fighting against fake drugs and health protection products of unknown origin

The Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document requesting departments, branches, units and localities to seriously implement Directive No. 17/CT-TTg dated June 19, 2018 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, production and trading of counterfeit and poor-quality goods in the group of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods, medicinal herbs and traditional medicine.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Police, the Department of Health , the Department of Industry and Trade (proactively advising the Provincial Steering Committee 389) and relevant departments to launch a peak campaign to combat counterfeit drugs and health protection products of unknown origin; in which, focusing on investigating and detecting establishments and subjects producing counterfeit drugs and health protection products or focal points for gathering and distributing counterfeit drugs and health protection products of unknown origin.

Strengthen inspection and examination of pharmaceutical business establishments, focusing on checking the origin of drugs and health protection products sold by business establishments. In case of discovering drug and health protection product business establishments without valid origin, it is necessary to coordinate with the health sector to verify the origin and strictly handle them according to the provisions of law.

Strengthen the monitoring, inspection and supervision of advertising and trading activities of drugs and health protection products via the Internet and social networks; promptly detect violations and coordinate with local information and communication management agencies to strictly handle them in accordance with the provisions of law.

The Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Health to closely coordinate with the police in investigating and handling cases of counterfeit drugs and health protection products. Directing sectors and levels to immediately review and recall counterfeit drugs and health protection products that have been discovered, promptly preventing and minimizing the harmful effects of using counterfeit drugs and health protection products in the area. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and relevant agencies and units to promote measures to control and prevent counterfeit drugs and health protection products circulating on the market; strengthen measures to manage drug wholesale and retail establishments associated with the requirement to connect drug supply establishments; only buy and sell drugs that have been granted circulation registration certificates, with invoices, documents, and origins in accordance with regulations.

Along with that, continue to promote information and communication activities about the risks and harms of using fake drugs, drugs of unknown origin, and fake health protection foods; promote the purchase and sale of prescription drugs and the safe and effective use of drugs.
