A commune official in Hai Duong was arrested for embezzling martyr worship allowance money.

On September 23, information from the Criminal Investigation Agency of Thanh Mien District Police ( Hai Duong province ) indicated that the unit had issued a decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and execute a 4-month temporary detention order against Truong Van Dat (41 years old), a commune-level civil servant in charge of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lam Son Commune People's Committee (Thanh Mien District), to investigate the crime of embezzlement of property.

According to investigation documents, in early March 2023, Truong Van Dat received 186.2 million VND from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Thanh Mien District as a subsidy for the worship of martyrs in 2023. This money was to be used to pay 128 people who worship 133 martyrs in Lam Son commune.

The police arrested Truong Van Dat at his workplace.

After receiving the money, Dat only paid 14 million VND to 10 people who worshipped 10 martyrs. He then forged the signatures and handwriting of 118 people who worshipped 123 martyrs, and created settlement documents to submit to the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Thanh Mien District to embezzle a total of over 172 million VND for personal expenses.

Immediately after receiving information about the embezzlement of war memorial allowance funds in Lam Son commune, the leaders of Thanh Mien District Police directed the Criminal Investigation Team - Economic Crimes - Narcotics to investigate and clarify the related actions of Truong Van Dat in order to strictly handle the case according to the law.

The Thanh Mien District Police Investigation Agency is continuing to expand the investigation, clarify the facts, and handle Truong Van Dat according to the law.
