On the afternoon of June 12th, the Ca Mau Provincial Department of Health announced that the locality had recorded another case of methanol poisoning, resulting in one death and three people being hospitalized for emergency treatment.
All four people who suffered alcohol poisoning reside in Tan Dien B hamlet, Thanh Tung commune, Dam Doi district. Currently, Ca Mau Provincial General Hospital is actively monitoring, caring for, and treating the patients with alcohol poisoning, including one case in critical condition.
Reportedly, during a drinking party at home, after almost finishing their alcohol, these four people mixed hand sanitizer into their drinks. The next day, all of them experienced headaches, fatigue, and vomiting, but did not seek medical attention. Only when one person became ill and died at home did their family take the remaining three to Ca Mau Provincial General Hospital for treatment. Due to the delayed hospitalization, these cases all developed dangerous complications, one case had a poor prognosis, and all three patients were diagnosed with methanol alcohol poisoning.
Following this incident, the Ca Mau Health Department advised people not to consume alcohol mixed with industrial alcohol, or alcohol infused with plants, leaves, or animals of unknown origin and toxicity. After consuming alcohol, if any unusual symptoms occur, people should quickly go to a medical facility for timely advice and treatment.
Since the beginning of the year, Ca Mau province has recorded 3 cases of methanol poisoning, resulting in 3 deaths.
