Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology (UMT) has issued a decision to temporarily suspend Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang, Director of the Institute of Sports Science and Management, from her duties and position.
"The Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology has received numerous complaints from individuals regarding Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang, and this information is affecting the university's reputation. Therefore, the university needs to verify and clarify the related issues," the decision stated, explaining the reason for suspending Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang.
The suspension period is two weeks, starting from January 7th to January 21st.
During the suspension period, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang was temporarily absent from school and did not come to work. The school also stipulated that during the suspension period, Dr. Giang was not allowed to contact students or parents.
Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang is entitled to a salary advance in accordance with the Labor Code and is obligated to maintain uninterrupted communication with the school and to be present when summoned.
Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang was accused by her former colleague at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology, Oliver Napila Gomez from the Philippines, of authoring the book "A Unified System Fitness Design (USFD)" published by Routledge, UK.
This is reportedly the first book by a Vietnamese author in the field of Sports Science to be published by Routledge.
Following the launch of the book USFD in Vietnam on November 24th, Oliver Napila Gomez posted on Facebook accusing Nguyen Tra Giang of intellectual property infringement for listing herself as the first author of the book USFD.
This person claims to be the author of the book USFD published by Routledge, and that Ms. Giang is a co-author.
